SNL 50 (favorite skits)

At least they are trying? Hmm. They aren't trying very hard. The writing hasn't been good since probably the late 90s, and the cast has mostly been awful during that time.

70s, 80s and early-mid 90s skits were hilarious and most of the cast members from those eras are comedy legends. Now we get a bunch of nobodies and the writing is not even close to funny. If I watch a newer episode, I MIGHT laugh once or twice but that's it.

Also, Pete Davidson is one of the biggest d-bags on the planet.

Bill Murray for president!!

RIP Belushi, Farley and Norm!

Pete Davidson isn’t on SNL anymore. And a lot of those comedy legends were nobody’s when they started on SNL.

The Weekend Update is almost always funny and I thought it was good last night. Over the years since Jost and Che have done it, the nights when they write jokes for each other have been hilarious! IMO

Someone who thinks that something was the best version of itself when they were young? What an original take.

I really enjoyed it! Every sketch had callbacks to previous sketches. Having Sabrina Carpenter in the Renewal of Vows sketch opening with a Wicked song was brilliant!

I don’t watch every Saturday night but the talent level is really down. They don’t have any star power like Will Farrell, Mike Meyers, Sandler, nobody like that. Mikey Day seems like a pretty talented guy but he’s not next level. Shane Gillis was the perfect for the show but he’s got fired before he made it to the show.

Honestly Gillis got way bigger by getting fired.

Adam Sandler was good. He's a classy guy. He always gives shout out to Farley when he performs.

Would like to have seen a more in depth section on the actors that have passed away. They touched on it, but not enough.

Weekend update has pretty routinely been the best part of the show these past few years. Che and Jost are really good at it.

I watch every new episode on demand and usually forward past the musical acts. I actually think that they have a pretty solid cast right now. The digital shorts are usually pretty good. IMO what they are missing are those home run recurring skits/characters that end up turning into movies. That’s kind of a lightning in a bottle thing that the current cast hasn’t found yet.

I was able to see only a few segments, due to work & other stuff. I want to watch full thing.

I assume it's replaying? If it's Peacock-only, my package apparently doesn't have that, also meaning I can't (presently) watch the SNL music retrospective (which I've heard is outstanding).

Murray ranking the WU hosts was top-notch. Additional element of nostalgia to his Academy Awards predictions back when he was cast member.

UFO sketch made me laugh a few times, but seemed to go on FOREVER (now "SNL" is that!?)

Thought last night's show was very good. Hard to get that many people involved and to keep everyone happy. I'm sure there was a lot of ego massaging. The concert show on Friday night on Peacock was incredible. If you have the chance to go back and watch that I would highly recommend it.

The anniversary show can be streamed for free using your streaming/cable/satellite provider information.

Wish they had included David Spade and Tim Meadows more than they did. An episode of The Ladies Man would have been great or even Wayne's World. Didn't see Dana Carvey there or Cheri Oteri either? They didn't really dip into the political stuff much which was refreshing but some of those former cast members played some funny ones over the years that maybe could have dipped into a blast from the past that way too. 50 years is a lot of content to weed through though so probably had some tough decisions on who got to perform.

Will Ferrell had some great sketches over there years. The one where he played John Rocker on Weekend Update was funny. Plenty of Harry Caray skits too

I thought it was great. There were a few people I was kind of surprised not to see. Dan Akroyd probably at the top of that list. He may have been there, but I didn’t see him. Hell…even Chevy Chase was there and I think he is still wildly unpopular.

Why is Chase unpopular?
