What is with the Refs?

This thread is funny because the consensus I am getting from Texas Tech fans is they got really hurt by the refs. My unofficial poll says that 98 percent of basketball fans feel that they got screwed by refs on games they lost by under 3 points.
The refs got their 90% free throw shooters to the line in crunch time and they choked.

One thing I’ve noticed that drives me nuts in WBB and MBB is the “someone fell down so there must be a foul” call.

Happened in the game today when Lipsey fell down and the TT player fell on him.

Happened in the women’s game against Utah where two players jumped for the ball and ran into each other hard.

Just because someone falls down or there is a collision does not automatically mean there was a foul committed.

Lipsey slipped and took out the TT guy. Intent doesn’t matter, he took the guy out of the play and something like that should be a foul every time.

My thought wasn't who was hurt or not, just how inconsistent the calls are. As a fan you can say this is a call and this is not. My hope would be for the same things to be called on both ends. Whether strict or loose. Based on many of the comments, it seems like a bridge to far.

I am not complaining on this being called or not called. These are human beings it happens.

I just want to know, why there is very little consistency. Consistency between games or even in game. Watch the TT game, I see calls that are against ISU, but not TT for doing the same things. It is somewhat frustrating as a fan when things are so unbalanced.

It has happened in other games to the favor of ISU.

The only thing I ask, is please be consistent. Again, human beings that will miss things. Just please... be consistent with the calls.
In the end we covered the spread AND got the win.

So the refs lost today.

Officiating basketball is one of the more difficult sports to officiate. It’s all about angles for the officials to get the proper sight lines. But the ball and players move quickly, and even a small movement can change the angle the official needs to see the play

That’s why the three officials will try to form a triangle. Generally one of the three will have the proper sight line. But it is far from perfect

The officials obviously will never have the same angle of a play that we see on TV. Bad or missed calls happen in every game

I really struggle to watch ISU road games for this reason. CBB officiating absolutely favors the home team. There are calls against us in road games that are infuriating, but also some head scratches that go our way in Hilton.
Was having this very discussion with my wife during dinner. Refs don't liked to be boo'd, either. They almost always favor the home team. Just the way of life.

A great example today was late. Gilbert gets called on a strip on Williams, it was actually a clean strip. I looked like it could be a foul but it wasn’t. I understand the call being made. Fast forward to Gilbert driving in that final stretch and Hawkins bodies him, comes across the arms and the ball goes out of bounds with no call. It should have been foul #5 on Hawkins and FTs. Instead we are inbounding. There were many other samples. What’s frustrating is we don’t get the home cooking in Hilton, many of the same types of examples.
That no call in particular was maddening tbh. Honestly I’m 100% in the opinion that contact does t always mean it’s a foul. I’m also glad we’re past the era of 12 offensive charges per game. I had a hard time watching any basketball at all when there was an offensive could every 3 possessions

When you take a guy out, intentionally or not, it is a foul.

How do you measure a foul, then?
There’s contact on almost every play going to the hoop. My point being that officials are so inconsistent with contact at the rim. Hands straight up and going vertical has been pretty consistent more recently. There was several times today the Clones were called for a foul and even announcers said “oh well he did make a little contact there” but then in the other end there was the same physical play and it’s not a call. I guess I just see it as a frustration about the consistency of it
