They showed Cooper Flagg dunk. It was good but nothing spectacular. I still don’t understand why he is the leading candidate for Wooden Award. He is a good looking freshman but is he the best player in college basketball? Is he a generational talent?
Considering he's probably going to keep getting better through the season at a high rate like Freshmen do, he is probably deserving to be top 5 and worthy of a lot of attention. Broom is a better college player, as are a few other guys, but Flagg is pretty unique in the college game right now.

Also, in the few low-level buy games he did not play a ton or shoot much. He's done most of his damage against good teams. He's had some inefficient games, but his single digit scoring games were against the likes of Wofford and Incarnate Word. This isn't a guy that's piled up stats against the dogs only to come back down to earth against good teams.

I'm not saying there's no bias, but...

The Duke game was against Pitt, who was the top "receiving votes" team in the AP poll (#26), so a more impressive win than ISU last night (Duke also won by 29). The highlights of #6 Kentucky were of them getting upset by an unranked Georgia team. And #7 Marquette played a close game at home against unranked Georgetown where they almost got upset.

Would it be nice if they would show extensive highlights of Iowa State beating another Big 12 team by 23? Yeah, I guess. But when a top 10 team is playing a non-tournament team, the game is more likely to get covered if it's a big upset rather than if it's an expected win. So in that sense, I'm not too upset that it didn't get much coverage.

Nothing is hurting us in recruiting right now.

That argument about tv coverage is no longer relevant, IMHO.

And I actually think the ESPN app is an amazing viewing experience right now. How cool is it that you can choose 1,2,3, or 4 games, arrange them how you want, and choose what games go where on your tv?

Cmon YoutubeTv you need to do that too!
ESPN production value and personnel are just so inferior to CBS.

The CBS production quality, crews, and college basketball shows just blow everything that ESPN does out of the water.

Whether it's NFL, CFB or CBB, ESPN's product is well below CBS, Fox and NBC.

He’s having an elite season. What are you talking about?

Blind resume test, I know you will know one but I’d like for you to guess on the other from a few years back. You can probably figure it out.

17.5 ppg 8.5 rebounds 3.7 assists 1.6 steals 1.3 blocks

13.4 ppg 9.3 rebounds 5 assists 1.2 steals .9 blocks

Both play/ed in P5 conferences and both played/are playing on good teams.

Not perfectly the same I understand, but both lead their teams in all of these categories, one is being celebrated as the savior of the NBA and one wasn’t even a lottery pick.

What Flagg is doing is good, but its crazy that he’s being hyped as the next great thing. Personally, I don’t see it. I think he will have a fine career though.

I don't know who the bottom guy is, but the top guy is Flagg, and you need to consider that he did not play nearly as much or shoot much in their garbage buy games. He's around 20 and 10 against P5 competition. As a Freshman big, it seems reasonable he's going to improve at a pretty high rate through the season, barring hitting a freshman wall.

So we'll see how it goes. Freshman can vary wildly as the season goes on. But if he does in the ACC what he's done so far against P5 teams, he's a first team AA.

I wouldn't call him a generational talent by any means, but I don't think people get what that means. Considering Wemby is like 19 or whatever and LeBron is still playing, it's pretty tough to make the "generational talent" claim. Is he a better prospect than anyone else this year and last year? Probably.

Broome is the favorite to win the Wooden award unless you're seeing something else?

To echo your point, Flagg's per-game stats in his 5 conference games are 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.4 steals, 1 block, and just 2 turnovers on 55% shooting, including 50% from three. And that excludes his 20+ point games against Kentucky, Arizona, and Auburn.

I believe those are Royce White's stats in his one season at Iowa State. Sure, they aren't that far off, but White was on a team that got a #8 seed in the tournament, not a top 10 team. Also, Royce was rewarded for that season by being the #16 pick, so just barely outside of the lottery. At the same time, Flagg's defensive effort and ceiling are way higher than Royce's ever were, plus he's younger.

is sports center still a thing people watch?
Didn't CNN do a really decent sports night recap at like 10 or 1030 as well back in the day? Like late 80s, early 90s?

Agree with others, don't watch ESPN. I pay for it to watch games as needed, but never watch the "content"

Bottom player was Royce White. An Honorable Mention AA who was the best player on the court vs #1 Kentucky and number 1 pick Anthony Davis.

He was the best player on the court until he said he was. After that moment, Kentucky immediately had the 4 best players on the court.

I loved what Royce did on the court while he was in Ames. He was capable of doing things that are not “normal”. Flagg is a better overall player though.

I’m not saying Flagg isn’t better, but is he really this amount of hype better? I think not. It seems like the standard for great players has dropped.

I agree with this 100%. What’s everyone’s favorite app or website? I don’t watch ESPN anymore, but I’m admittedly still in the habit of going there for scores. Just probably used to the layout more than anything.

Best player in college? He is a poor shooter and turnover prone

You said, “he is a good looking freshman”

He’s much more than that. He’s elite as a 17 year old. He’s having a top-5 all-time KenPom POY season while on a top KenPom team. Granted, Broome is having an even better season

It’s not hype, it’s a 17 year old with incredible upside that’s already performing at an all time efficient and effective level

He's a 50% eFG guy right now and 78% from the line. That's not a poor shooter.
For a big man, he is a poor shooter. Most of his shots are closer to the basket. He is a good looking freshman but not a generational talent.

What makes Flagg better than Royce White? Royce shot 53% overall and 33% from 3pts, which is far better than Flagg. Was a Royce White a good player? Yes, he was. Was he a generational talent? No, he wasn’t
