he was playing hurt, took an injury missed a game and only had a few snaps after that in the next game or two.

No. He registers stats in every game this year. Nearly double digit carries too.

It was just ridiculously disjointed and no rhythm was ever allowed to get established.

Not doubting he was injured. I just don’t think it was ever anything more than speculated. And he was never truly rested.

I find it bizarre. Or incompetent.

So many horrible takes in this thread, especially in the wake of a turd if a game.

Much of it in the exact same vein as the “Carson Hansen can’t run the ball” complaints last offseason.

And yes, he’s been dinged up most of the season.

News flash? Players develop and improve from year to year, folks.

The injuries on offense (especially OL) and defense took a toll as the year wound down. We were first on the conference in both total offense and defense later in the year.

That many LB injuries was an outlier…times three.

Verdon and Freyler covered for green LB mistakes—until there wasn’t Verdon any more.

The rushing attack was developing nicely until Barrett got hurt. And stayed hurt.

*Hint? Depth on the OL (especially the interior) will be much better with six players coming off redshirts.

Alston and Green weren’t recruited for a huge impact this year, they were sweating up for next. Hello? They literally play the exact same positions as Higgins and Noel.

We need more speed at WR? Who the **** do you think those young guys are that the coaches have been glowing over? That’s not even counting the current signees. Zay Robinson could be a taller Noel.

I don’t know what the current fredhman look like, compared to the coaches who see them every day, but I’d guess a portal list would start with a cirner

Someone to start opposite Jontez, and act as a bridge to some really talented ‘24 recruits. Going by previous learning curves (Jontez included) means they’ll be really good in ‘26.

*”Abu to corner” is basically asking him to redshirt.

Again, without knowing how the young guys look, the next spot could be a Travis-type LT.

The other four spots will likely go something like LG Buhr C Barrett RG Black (/Hasert?) RT Miller.

Townsend would not be a surprise for an M.

A safety is another possibility, but there is loads of seasoned young talent at S. Bringing someone in is screwing them over.

Balance that with playing KState first game.

NG likely depends on whether Big Citrus goes to the NFL or not. He’s not going anywhere else.

And as was already said, it’s more than likely we won’t be bringing in big name P4 transfers. Small school guys looking to make a name for themselves the way Higgins did? There you go.
@Aclone
I thought Barrett was the transfer from Wisconsin, am I mistaken?

You also don’t mention Bonifas, was that deliberate or an oversight?

Just curious and TIA!

I’ve never been able to buy into the Hansen dinged up talk. He played almost the whole possession of our first drive in the championship game and was a huge part of the initial game plan

I’m kinda curious how the outgoing Portal will look. Because it’s a guarantee that it won’t be empty.

And it’ll be inflated by the walkons who won’t have a spot on a shrunken 105 man roster any longer. Sure, they’ll be dropping down—but that’s still through the Portal.

I’m actually impressed there’s so much team solidarity that we haven’t seen any names at all yet—though that won’t last much longer.

ASU didn’t dump like 10x more money than us in football. 17 out of their starting line up in the CCG were transfers.
Good strategy by ASU HC.

But high % of portal starters is function of this being HC's 2nd year. New reality of switching coaches. Indiana did same thing.

But Campbell is in year 9. A HC with more than 3 years of tenure should be using portal to fill holes rather than rebuild roster.

I expect the staff will use the same portal game plan as the last few years. The positions which we lose players in the portal will be the positions we add players. So the next couple days should tell us a lot.

This is hilarious. We just played (albeit terribly) in the conference championship. 10 wins. 1 game from the playoffs. And its ‘replace everyone’. Go touch grass you fools. And donate to We Will. If you are, donate more. If you aren’t, GTF outta here with your takes.
I donate to the We Will, each year actually.

For the teams in the playoff, find me any linebacker starters that are on the same level as Sadowsky, Rylan Barnes, McClaughlin. You won't.

I'm not saying all starters have to lose their jobs. But when we were 109th in the country this year in sacks, lacked great tackling against the run, got exposed in big games this year with front 6 of the D, yes I want a couple players on defense in the portal at LB and DE. Forgive me for wanting the program to continue to get better.

I’m of the opinion that if they want to be paid then a higher level of performance should be the expectation. Not meeting that level of performance will get you cut just like in professional sports. That being said keep orange and recruit over everyone else. See who steps up and who bails out.

He did get hurt in a game. Not sure if he is completely healthy or not but was hurt at one point.

He definitely got hurt during the UCF game. Noticeably limping (guessing an ankle) and essentially sat the 2nd half.

Some names from the portal to keep an eye on who could help the team (I'll edit this once I do more research):

RB Sevion Morrison (Kansas)
RB Nate White (Wisconsin) - Could be a good replacement for Jackson. We recruited White out of HS. Pretty sure he visited ISU at least once.
WR Xavier Townsend (UCF) - Former ISU commit. Would be a perfect guy to replace Noel in the slot and as a returner. #1 on my portal wish list.
WR Damien Alford (Utah) - 6'6" guy who missed the season with an injury.
WR Luke Wysong (New Mexico) - This kid is damn good. Reminds me a lot of Josh Lenz.
WR Caleb Medford (New Mexico) - 6'2" athletic guy with some hops. Really good redzone target. Started career at TCU.
WR Trech Kekahuna (Wisconsin) - Slot WR. 25 catches this year.
OT Ryder Langsdale (Lafayette) - This kid is really really good. Only played 2 years at LT after switching over from defense.
OG Hunter Zambrano (Illinois State) - Another solid o-lineman from a small school that has played really well.
C/G Raheem Anderson (Michigan) - We recruited him hard out of high school.
LB Phoenix Jackson (Fresno State) - Pretty decent LB with experience. My younger son's name is Phoenix so I kinda want this kid to come to ISU.
EDGE Princewill Umanmielen (Nebraska) - Hasn't done much in his 2 years at Nebraska but he is very athletic and quick. His brother has over 10 sacks this year for Ole Miss.
EDGE Nate Johnson (Appalachian State) - 7.5 sacks as a freshman. Only 2.5 sacks this year.
EDGE Clev Lubin (Coastal Carolina) - 9.5 sacks this season.
EDGE DJ Warner (Kansas)
DB John Randle Jr. (Utah) - We recruited him as a running back when he was in HS. Moved to DB this year as a redshirt freshman. Former 4 star.
CB Karon Prunty (North Carolina A&T) - Great freshman year at Kansas and then transferred to NC A&T, where he has started for the last 3 years.
CB Amare Snowden (Wisconsin) - 6'4" corner who saw limited action as a freshman this year.
S Caleb Wisniewski (North Dakota State) - All-American FCS safety with Malik Verdon size. #2 on my portal wish list.
DB Boogsie Silvera (McNeese State) - Quality DB with a funny name.

And here are some guys in the portal that I am adding just for a goof:

S Willie Nelson (Oklahoma State) - Great name!
OT Gunnar Hansen (Vanderbilt) - I have no idea if this kid is good, but... I'm a huge fan of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
QB Cade McNamara (Iowa) - Hahaha!... HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
RB Eli Sanders (New Mexico) - Kidding. There's no way he is coming back to Ames.
QB Devon Dampier (New Mexico) - Would love to see him come to ISU as a running back, but I can't see him wanting to go somewhere and change positions.
Wow, thank you for putting this together.

I love the idea of an impact corner like John Randle Jr., any of the DEs or the LB from Fresno St.

I love the idea of picking up some undervalued defensive guys from MAC, Mountain West, or even FCS if they're studs.

For Cade McNamara as portal target again: it is time to get the insurance license son. It's over.

Who the F cares where we rank in sacks. We won 10 games and made the Big 12 Championship. I'd say we had a pretty good season.

Imagine how ****** those 10 teams we beat are, they need to replace everyone since they got beat by the 109th ranked sack team.

Yeah will be few guys here and there. I do think we need a linebacker however. Just the scheme we play it requires a lot of them that can play.
