The only leverage Yormark may have is with basketball. How he can use that is a whole other question.

It’s sad it even comes to this. The Big12 is literally an ESPN product and it’s crazy they don’t promote them. They hype up the B1G which they have no part of more than the Big12. I kind of wonder if the main reason we are still with ESPN is because they sweetened the pot a little bit to get OuuT early. Obviously it’s ESPN and it’s not bad to be on though, and this new TBS thing starting next year helps too.
I’m so excited about the TBS thing. I loathe ESPN. It’s unbelievable what a garbage organization they’ve become.

What were the ratings for Michigan-Ohio State?

Because the game itself was abysmal.

Maybe it’s the Mandela effect, but I swear I heard him say when he was in the booth that this was his first time there for a game.
I havent seen the TV clip, but can confirm that hes been to the Trice previously. I have seen him there at least once before.

Well said. Remember, ESPN wanted to relegate the 8 schools to the AAC before some things were public. Bowlsby’s receipts probably helped save us. We got a fairer deal after working through the OUT exit. And Yormark opened negotiations early to grab the PAC deal they were waffling over.

ESPN and Fox have a monopoly thing going on with sports coverage. My hope is that streaming continues to get more popular, and Apple and Amazon jump into the mix.

I think parity of NIL is going to affect the B1G and SEC more than they want, which is why they will lean on their media partners to carry water and talk about why Nick Saban's championships matter now to them as a conference instead of play on the field. The Big 12 needs to keep their **** together and win some games against them in the playoff and all of this gets a little bit easier. But it will be tough sledding if all you get is one Big 12 competing up against the P2 with seven or eight in. But ESPN knows this. Big 12 teams that get the opportunity, have to win games.
The problem is that the committee is going to go out of there way to slot the Big 12 in very unfavorable positions. Saying just wind some playoff games is like telling poor people to get better jobs.

It goes beyond just the playoff discussion.

I would rather have a TV "partner" whose coverage falls well above ESPN's current baseline of somewhere between "let's ignore them" and "talk **** about them every chance we get."
IMO the College Football Playoffs impact way too many things for one effing network to be the sole carrier. This should 100% be split between Fox and ESPN. The mothership has way too much skin in the game and it impacts how they are covering the sport and not in a good way.

I think a strong streaming partner could put the squeeze on ESPN, especially if the ACC falls apart in a few years. Whether they want to admit it or not, they need the Big 12 inventory.

the big 12 should bring on his twin brother, once one of them goes to sleep the other one is activated and goes to work calling ESPN and changing the narrative. A 24/7 commish

We can get there but, the B12 will have many more in bowl games. When were in the playoff, we or ASU needs to win games in the playoff. If we get a home game in January "We Will" win, no southern team will want to come up here and play. That will be awesome. Point is we need to win against the chosen few.
Under the current format, no Big XII team will ever host a playoff game. Once they inevitably nix the auto-bye for conference champs, then maybe we can hope for it.

Why?

Is it not possible for one of our league teams to be ranked 5-8?

It's as possible as it is for any league. The formula is to get ranked early and win games without stumbling in November. Honestly, if ISU only loses to one of Tech or Ku last month that's probably where we'd be.

The Big 12 has four 2 loss teams at the top of the league, 3/4 lost to Kansas. All of the teams with any historical success have been mediocre or terrible.

Is it fair that the media judges a league based on historical success and not the play on the field? No, but it shouldn’t surprise anybody at this point. Does it suck as an Iowa state fan to hear your league is trash during your best season in school history? Absolutely.

It doesn’t matter that Alabama has 9 wins, the fact they lost to Vanderbilt means they are trash this year in the eyes of most people.

This tells me that Kansas Football is a terrorist organization

Nothing but ISU bias. Until we beat a Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc. in the playoffs we are from the other side of the tracks. Of course they stack the deck so it makes it difficult to do that too.

Nothing will change until ESPN loses total rights to the CFP. Them being able to have a monopoly on it is the worst case scenario for everyone else. I hate ESPN. I don't watch a single program on their network unless it's a live game of one of my teams. I watch Fox Big Noon Kick Off on Saturdays, and watch NFL Network on Sunday Morning. Monday nights I won't turn it on until 2 minutes before the MNF game kicks.

We'd have to be ranked that while simultaneously losing in the CCG, that's the tricky part. A Big XII champion could absolutely end the year ranked that high, but they'll be one of the top 4 seeds and skip the first round. The only way I could see it even having a chance of happening is a 12-0 team loses in the CCG, a la TCU in 2022. But I don't think the committee will ever let the second place Big XII team (especially a Northern one, but that's another conversation) finish above enough of the SEC/B1G brands.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying a Big XII runner up shouldn't ever be ranked there, but the CFP isn't designed to be fair.

I'd love to see another network carry it, mostly because ESPN's production quality is garbage, but why do you think it would be any different if Fox or whomever was involved? All of the networks want the most attractive brands in the CFP, regardless of conference affiliation, and as long as it's a TV product (spoiler: it always will be) maximizing viewership will always be the primary goal.

Which is exactly why any pseudo-debate about the bubble teams with Alabama involved in that group is hilarious. Bama will be in. There is no question. People failing to see the embedded bias they have made little to no effort to hide is mindboggling. This system isn't fair and anyone pretending that it is on TV or otherwise shouldn't be taken seriously.
