Our history

We just need to look at Indiana. Remember during COVID it was us versus them in the cinderella story? Now they have 10 wins and are undefeated after losing their star QB to a transfer during that COVID season. We have to want to aim higher.
Well their coach was able to bring an entire roster from his old school. They have a lot of depth and veteran players. Most of their roster starting is SR transfer. They don't play freshmen.

That James Madison group, was a high level team last year

I suppose you can try to hire say the Boise guy and get all his starters to come over

Even worse then. They were able to rebuild themselves in that timeframe.

And in our last three years:

two bowl losses and a 4-8 season. So basically the same result in the end.
LOl. 4-8 was their best year in the previous three years. Surrounded by a 2-10 and a 3-9. Yeah you guessed it no bowl eligibility.

You have to be realistic. CMC isn’t an elite coach and ISU isn’t recruiting/affording high-level talent overall. For ISU, win/loss is going to be more about the schedule and winning some games where things fall into place.

A talented, well-coached team comes out and imposes their will - it’s pretty awesome. For the most part, ISU isn’t going to be a team that does that.

What Indiana did this year is remarkable and would be extremely difficult to replicate.
New coaching staff; tons of transfers. They basically started from ground zero this year. With that said, it worked. But the same scenario would lead to 4 or fewer wins the vast majority of the time

So, we can focus on the one big success story, or we can look at the big picture to see how likely it would be to replicate Indiana’s success this year

Should ISU go 3-9 so they can get to Indiana's level for one season?

This. For the first time ever, we have a budget and facilities that are on par with the rest of the conference. We are on a level playing field for the first time ever. The ceiling is higher now.

We have the second largest stadium now in a 16 team league, and we fill it. That sentence would have seemed inconceivable just 10 years ago.
We do not have NIL at the level as the rest of our league, not even close.

We did go 4-8 two seasons ago, so we pretty much did. I think anyone in here would trade a 3-9 to go host a CFB playoff game the following year. We're used to 3-9 seasons anyways.
ISU has a terrible football history but wishing they were a team that has had three winning seasons in three decades is something.

Yes, because everyone knows going 3-9 means the following year they will host a CFP playoff game

Huh? He asked if we needed to trade going 3-9 one season to go 10-0 the next.. and I said I'm sure anyone would trade for that because we were used to poor seasons in the past. Nowhere did I say I wanted us to become a consistently bad team.
