I can appreciate the alumni band members wanting to be back for a game, and toot their own horns....
That being said I can't stand the alumni band. Whether they play against the stadium music, or off cadence against the actual current band, it can get frustrating. And I have season tickets with folks who are band alums.

LMAO at one point there were three bands playing at the same time on Saturday. The main band in the north endzone, the alumni band, and the travelling band that moves around the stadium in the second half.

My seats are somewhat by them. I didn't think it was a big deal and hardly noticed them.

What annoys me about the alumni band is that they are shuffling in and out of the section the entire damn game. I sit nearby so yeah my view gets obstructed a lot.

There were a few that stood up for a good portion of the game but really hardly watched the game. Some were right in front of me. When I couldn't see, I stood up too.

Wait you want the band to quiet down so you can hear the piped-in filler music better?

Weird.

The actual band is fine. They clearly are aware of how things are trending, I doubt they like it but they know it is what it is.

It’s not that big of a deal going forward since thankfully the alumni band is only there 1 game.

I can’t imagine being so unhappy in life that the alumni band playing during the game upsets someone enough to take the time to post and vent about it.

I am a band alumnus, proud of it too. Playing in the alumni band just isn’t my thing anymore. Sorry that a group of alumni upset you so much.

I also appreciate when the Alumni Pep Band plays at games during winter break. Basketball at Hilton wouldn't be right without a band.

I stopped doing alumni band because I got tired of how much they wanted to play. Not because of how it affected those around me (lets be honest most of the stadium couldn't hear them or barely heard them) but because I just wanted to enjoy the game and would rather be with my family. Hardly any of my friends from my time in the band do it either so it was pointless. Kudos to those that do it just not my thing.

I wouldn't say they were trying to play over the speaker music. I highly doubt they had a headset to hear when the stadium had something vs the band so they just played...and again I highly doubt most of the stadium (especially those on the west side) could hear them.
^this—as far as I saw, the alumni band drum majors did not have a headset so they were just guessing on when to play. I was in the alumni band and I had no control on when we played.

To the OP, if you don’t want the alumni band there, then go to an nfl game. It’s freaking homecoming in college football—the traditions like alumni band, homecoming pep rallies, etc are what make cfb unique and fun. And it’s only one game

If you must re-live your glory days, do your thing at halftime and be done with it. No reason to be playing during especially when as you have admitted, your director had no idea when he should start the band up. Or just get the guy a headset so he actually knows when things are happening.

100% serious question:

What about having the alumni band playing bothers you?

The Alumni band is great for our university, and I really don’t understand the naysayers. They give a lot of financial support for the varsity band. It’s a group of passionate alumni that enjoys coming back to support our school. The alumni pep band helps fill in during winter break games. Keep up the good work I say!

The main thing is that they were seemingly unaware of what was going on in the stadium.

If their director had a headset and knew when it was appropriate to play and wasn’t fighting with the stadium sound system most of the game, I’d be fine with it.
