***Bye Week Discussion Thread***

I’m going to enjoy the hell out of the next two weeks. How many times in our lives have we been 7-0 with a bye? Zero. It may never happen again.

I’m not going to worry about who is injured. I’m not going to worry about Texas Tech.

I’m going to bask in the perfection of this team. I’m going to listen to every sports podcast in this state since we had the double joy of Iowa State winning and Iowa losing.

It was certainly looking like a L. (Captain Obvious). A first time 10 win season is back in the fold and I think about that more than making the playoff. At the same time I wonder what their record would be if Texas and OK would not have left.
Last year ISU played both OU and Texas in a 14-team Big 12. If that 14-team league was still intact, there's a decent chance ISU would have played the exact same 7 teams we have played so far. Keep in mind we played Cinn and BYU in 2023. This year we got UCF and Houston.

Did the Big 12 create and release a 2024 schedule that included OU and Texas? Remember they left a year earlier than planned. It would be interesting to see who ISU had on their schedule.

Excited as heck that we're 7-0. The best Cyclone team in my 60 years. But last night shows this team has plenty of room for improvement if we are going to be a Big12 Championship game team.

On offense we need more consistency from the run game. And we need to have a 3rd WR to emerge. Especially with Braymer dinged and if teams load the box.

On defense the staff needs to figure two things out over the bye. Our run defense has been spotty. Second, how do we get more pressure & sacks.

Brooks is a great back, but I think we match up better with his style and TT's roster. UCF ran the mesh very well, and their QB is a big, fast dude who can take it to the house. Harvey is a one cut speedster. For TT, Brooks runs a lot like Breece. He hesitates and hesitates until he sees a lane. I think we struggle more with guys like Harvey and Kaleb Johnson who don't dance and get up field as fast as possible. And TT's QB is not a threat whatsoever to run. Brooks will still get his, but if we're healthy, I think we match up with TT really well.
Keep in mind they put up 44 against Cincy In their win. Who was thought to have a decent defense.

ISU needs whatever they use in those movies about injuries regenerating to normal through some sort of magical elixir or whatever.

It’s obvious that some of you folks find something to “worry” about Every. Single. Game.

A. We’ll be healthier in two weeks.

B. Tech had no defense. None. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch.

Gave up 59 to a modest Baylor team. Were horrid before that.

Hello?

This game will be fun to watch.
I also don’t think tech is as good running it. Wasn’t UCF 4th nationally in rushing? Not sure where tech stands, thought

Injuries have impacted the run game this week, as well as the defense is playing 3rd and 4th string walk-ones and Freshman at LB. getting healthy are the answers to these issues.

With this current CFP situation, I’m treating this a lot like wrestling. Celebrate winning the conference. That’s the goal and that’s what we as fans should be talking about. What happens on the national stage is gravy. To chase the rankings and at large picks will only disappoint because the odds are stacked to the big dollar programs.
We haven’t won a conference championship in football since…

1912.

That’s a drought longer than the Cubs had.

We’re due.

I got to admit something, At the beginning of the season I really hated the idea of the 2-minute timeout/warning. I just thought it was a ploy to add more commercial breaks. However, I can't help think that the new 2-minute timeout has given us a chance to win two games iowa and UCF. I'll take the extra commercials for the extra wins.

CMC has really done a masterful job of taking advantage of the two-minute timeout. Good job out the coaches on how to use that to their advantage.

yall arent giving UCF enough credit. That O line is fantastic and the new QB effect is real. I think UCF wins this weekend and ends up bowl eligible. KJ jefferson was the problem. That's not a bad team at all

I do agree that UCF has a chance to turn it around. I think the lack of the passing game will bite them against some teams though. OkSt was running a heavy run offense with Gordon and their QB before he got injuried. I think UCF could have similar success against BYU like OkSt.

However, like Chris and Blum said on the Sunday pod. This may be UCF's last stand or catalyst for the rest of the year. Saturday will be telling; I think BYU only opened as 1.5 point favorites.

we probably lose to Texas but I don't see how we don't beat OU.....they are terrible this year
