Not sure being the better player is all that counts for bottom of roster players. A team might look for developmental height or defensive specialist or some other specific skill-set.
I agree I watched both games and in both there was an official we have had many times in the past in the Big 12. The NY/ LV game had some calls that you scratch your head about. In the Lynx/Sun game we had Gina Cross and others I have seen do games. To me it looked like just before the game they went out on the street and picked three people walking by gave them shirts and a whistle and do the game. There were calls where someone was grabbed /pushed ran over and no call then a player gets slapped on the arm while dribbling and that gets a call. Worst called game I have seen this season yet we still were able to win.Watching Lynx - Sun game - if they want to gain viewers other than certain players - they need to officiate games like the NBA - no way their officials would allow the hand-to-hand combat go on like in this game. Let the players show their skills.
Then change the rules. Either players deal with and play within the existing rules or just get rid of them and turn it into playground ball. It’s not that difficult. What’s difficult is finding the competent refs…hard to figure out. If three can’t effectively call the game and one more.Watching Lynx - Sun game - if they want to gain viewers other than certain players - they need to officiate games like the NBA - no way their officials would allow the hand-to-hand combat go on like in this game. I am old school and want the game the way it should be by the rules. You are spot on that to do that fouls must be called consistently start to finish. Another issue is the constant openly complaining to officials, call a few technical's on players and maybe it would stop. If there is a question about a call only the coach can talk to officials. I am not saying a player can't ask what did I do but watch a few games and some players are complaining about everything. The rules exist - they are just not enforced - the NBA made a conscious decision to clean up there game post Jordan so that fans could see the skill and athleticism of the player. There has been a freedom of movement conversation for years but never enforced in the WNBA or NCAA. If they want to clean up the physicality of the game the rules exist - until the overseers of the game instruct officials to call the contact it will not improve. In the Lynx game there were 9 fouls called in the first 3 1/2 quarters and then 7 or 8 in the last few minutes. Same things that were going on the whole game - they just decided to call them. Frustrating for all involved - then in the 4th Qtr went back to no calls.

It was a few years ago…well probably ten…that the NCAA said to allow freedom of movement and call the pushes, shoves, etc. They did for about one season….and then it regressed again. As mentioned…call the game correctly or get rid of the rules. The rules exist - they are just not enforced - the NBA made a conscious decision to clean up there game post Jordan so that fans could see the skill and athleticism of the player. Bridget ended up with 12 points on 4 of 8 shooting. Solid game by the Linx. Bridget was the primary defender on Mabrey.
This has been Bridget's job the last few years to defend a shooter from the other team and IMHO that hurt her scoring. Coach told her at the start of this season she needed to try to score more and you have seen what has happened.
And doing so she gets beat up. I saw an elbow to Bridget's chest that had her fade back and collect herself. She gets punished but if the Lynx win the Championship I am sure she will forget the pain and bruises. She is solid and works hard without too many complaints or disruptive behavior. This has been Bridget's job the last few years to defend a shooter from the other team and IMHO that hurt her scoring.
