Iowa State vs Iowa Match Thread

VB team loses again today vs Soth Dakota in 4 sets. Gonzalez was benched in what I am assuming is performance related. They play Montana St tomorrow morning. It will be interesting to see if more starters get benched in what has been a very disappointing season so far.
Not feeling all that confident about the Big 12. I think they will have some good wins, but also some bad losses. The consistency is not there. Hopefully it is just CJL trying to find the right lineup.

I hope it’s just lineup issues. They beat Montana State today in three today so at least ended the tournament on a positive note.

Hope so also but the regression and inconsistency of Gonzalez has been troubling as well as the ups and downs of both Wachholz and Schmitt in the 3rd OH spot. I think Gonzalez eventually snaps back to more consistent high quality play. Not so bullish on the Wachholz/Schmitt combo who really need to improve.

Looked just terrible yesterday. Middles were not effective either blocking or hitting. USD attacked over setter everytime she was in front. Most sets were low and help set the opposing block. Effort seemed lacking at times. Hope they pick things up but need to block and on offense get more swings than tips.

Shame about KSU game. We had them in set 3 at least twice on match point. The replays there was clearly no touch on either that would have given ISU the match. Instead we get our doors blown off set 4 and then lose set 5 15-10. Way too many service errors lost count at 14.

The down official (R2) was AWFUL. He made 3 calls that no other official saw. Was embarrassing to watch.

Yes, we lost but the ‘touch’ call he called at one of the sets to not let ISU win was horrible. This ref needs to be disciplined.

Yeah, in terms of painful losses, that one Saturday vs KSU ranks amongst the highest in recent memory given the bad calls against ISU at match point in Set 3.

ISU ended up with only 6 service aces vs 16 service errors and that really cost them.

The third OH continues to CJL’s biggest personnel issue. Wachholz hit -.235 and got benched. Schmitt came in to replace her and started off fast but she ended up at .036. And Gonzalez’s struggles continue as she hit .107.

CJL has got to get the OH numbers up with improved serving for the team to make a big run in conference play and have any shot to make the NCAAs again.

Lost to Houston in 5 but Nayeli Gonzalez went down and left the floor on crutches after a long delay. It looked horrific and I do not expect good news for her. ISU is more than banged up the season is slipping away.

This season is a wash to be honest....so many injured players out....Nayeli going down last night, Maya is banged up, Pam was out sick last night.....we can't catch a break.....I am proud of the team for getting back into the match last night and forcing a 5th set but conference play could be rough.

We play Kansas twice, Arizona State, Baylor, and TCU...not to mention Utah who is doing pretty good right now as well

Has anyone heard about the updated status of Nayeli's knee injury?
