UVA/UNC seem like obvious adds to me. We all know they want ND.

I think they'd want somebody in Florida and... Miami feels more like one of them that the 'Noles.

I would actually have Miami much lower than FSU. But you could be right as the private nature keeps them out of a lot of Florida issues. Still don’t see that one happening though.

I honestly think things hold for a number of years. We could see the lawsuit finalize that allows FSU/Clemson to leave but they might not initialize it till closer to when the media rights deals are up for renewal.

Tbh I see UVA on par or below Stanford in those categories and right around Cal. Why would the B1G not have added those schools when they had the chance over Oregon (lesser academics)? I don’t think UVA gets a shot in the P2 but that’s just me

Couple of reasons, 1st it would give the league a state that they do not currently have a team in, adding Cal or Stanford does not do that as they already have teams in the state. 2nd it would allow them to lock up the upper east coast of the country, they would have Rutgers, Maryland, UNCI and UVA.
Adding Stanford or Cal is just another team on the west coast that has great academics which bring nothing to the league in either football or basketball, except more travel. Virginia is a lot closer time wise to most of the league compared to the Bay area.

Also the travel is being brought up a lot especially for the non revenue sports. That’s part of the reason I see UNC/UVA as a more realistic adds than Florida schools.

The other part is that even with the expanded playoff the regular teams at the top aren’t going to be too happy to continue to add top tier teams and just give them a harder path.

unlike the ACC, the big 12 has few **** teams that FSU could say, with a straight face, i need to make more than you.

I mean FSU hasnt been Georgia or Bama good. They've been mediocre many years. Not sure they can look Utah, kstate, oklahoma state, Iowa State, etc in the eye and say i deserve more than you.

I mean if we were talking LSU or Ohio state coming to the big 12, i would be more willing to cough up some extra cash, but fsu is in the acc, and if they have no spot in the power 2, they have zero leverage over the big 12.

I did not realize until last week that Georgia Tech was once in the SEC, and quite successful. They withdrew from the conference over recruiting rules during the Bear Bryant era.

As did Tulane. Tulane, which views itself as an academic institution, didn't fancy having scholar athletes who couldn't read or write on campus. that was what it took to compete in the sec at that time.

Realignment is mainly about media rights value. Academics is secondary. Pretty obvious Big10 AND Big12 valued Cal & Stanford below other eight Pac12 teams.

UVA and UNC are perfect fits for Big10 based on adding fanbases/viewers in highly populated states and provide geographic/historic rivals for MD, Rutgers and even Penn State.

That doesn't mean Cal or Stanford won't end up in the Big10 someday. It will be much easier to shoehorn lower media-value schools into the Big10 in 2030 when the Big10 structures its next comprehensive media deal. Sure the Big10 could add a streamer like Netflix, Amazon or Apple over the next 6 years, but it might be tough to do so without diluting media money to current Big10 schools.

I get that in terms of TV deals it's easier for the networks to afford the Big 12 deal per team cost. And if you're Clemson and FSU, you could do much better with the Big 12 vs the other two where you're walking in at #5 or lower.

Are you talking about the AAU narrative? Nebraska was when they joined and they are trying to get back in which is appearing to be an up hill battle.

I do agree that the thought of only taking AAU was silly as the big ten would have added ND in a heartbeat like you said but it does help from the academic side. Nebraska sticks out like a sore thumb academically in the big ten although Oregon’s addition helped. I don’t think AAU would be the hold out for adding a school like FSU, it would be other things.

I do know that most in the big ten really regret adding Nebraska.

A year or 2 ago I would have been jumping for joy at the possibility of FSU or Clemson in the Big 12. Now, I honestly don’t know. I’ve gotten used to the idea of all schools being roughly equal. I’m scared FSU may throw that synergy off and start becoming Texas 2.0

Still have no idea how this gets done, but if Yormark can pull it off, I guess you have to do it from a business perspective…

Both. Fans never really wanted Nebraska and add in the fact that they add nothing and most are just annoyed. Then they tried to flex during covid and got reminded how nothing they are now and it just annoyed more of the AD’s and presidents.
