Iowa State Uniform Discussions (update: new basketball unis)

Yeah, we can't have a gold helmet (or even cardinal/gold pants stripe to connect elements), but we can have like 6 black/white combos from which to choose.

But we have gold pants now, and probably won't use it often (prediction).
Yep, I'm guessing at most 1 game a year.

The players like them. I'd rather cater to them than our fan base that can't really agree to anything that comes to uniforms. FFS there were people who liked the bugle!

The black needs to go already.

A gimmick way past its expiration date.
It's now gone way past what it started as. I remember when we first got the black, it was kind of cool, and we would use them a couple of times per year, for important games.

Not we see this new iteration of black, with broader combinations and possibilities. Not sure I like the trend either. I don't feel like it is going away while Campbell is here, at least not until we do away with the bright yellow gold that we currently have (in the FB uniform).

[We need to provide the FB uniform with a darker gold. Another point, another day.]

On top of this, every other team is getting black, so the novelty is gone.

The players probably do like them, black. But they don't have much say in the color selection or design. They wear what is available to them.

Name 3! :D

Man there are some serious old & new boomers just pining for the day the team shows on the field on gameday like they do in their navy blue swirly Cy gear.

I don't mind it as a slight accent. I wouldn't mind using the bird in a blender just to piss the naysayers off though.

I

Totally agree with you, but I am assuming that the players are most interested in the black/white uniforms and most likely do not care that much for anything vintage. Seems most folks interested in all the vintage logos who post here ( I am one of them, by the way--1988 ISU graduate) are not all that young.
I am a 2020 graduate and love the vintage logos lol.....I think the I State is fine and people do recognize that logo but why couldn't we throw in a vintage uniform at least once every year? Maybe make it the homecoming game or something like that

the thing that annoyed me is that in the covid season specifically, they became our primary uniforms...we wore them in 6 of our 12 games, including a home game against a ranked Oklahoma and in the two other biggest games of the year, the Big 12 Championship and the Fiesta Bowl.

Campbell = Back in Black

Back on track, slightly, from an athletic POV; Angus Young puts on an athletic show while he plays. He's got to be in very good shape to do it. It is quite impressive really!

That's an elite logo though.
I’ve said this forever that if I was AD I would take the 90’s cynado logo and replace the blue outline trim with black and it would be absolutely perfect, it incorporates Cyclones, cy, and our name in it without messing up our color combo, Jaime needs to update the blue and bring it back

I'm 25, so definitely not a boomer, and even I'm tired of the neutral colors....our brand is all over the place and Nike is making uniforms so bland now (see TCU and Baylor)

Yes, agree. And I miss the complexity and temper of the gray/silver, vs. the all white.
Yeah you're right it's missing the silver from the numbers. I hate that they removed the unique numbers, I thought they were cool personally. Technically they still have the ISU font but it's not as good.
They gave the unis a good temper (that's a good word). An intensity.

Anyways it doesn't matter, if they updated the unis because the players wanted to then it's fine.
But after seeing all the other schools uniform re-designs I think the only reason we changed is because Nike wanted to cut costs by simplifying their production line and told all the schools "ok you know all those design features that made each teams uniform stand out from the others? Yeah we're not doing that anymore cuz it cost money so here are your options: stripes, different size stripes, or no stripes. and go f*** yourself" (I'm not into conspiracy theories but this one I believe lol)
