I always find it kind of funny when companies have to hire consultants to make decisions for them. I have a saying that you hire consultants to tell you what you already know, but unwilling to admit.

I also understand that consultants are great tools for executives to use as it gives them cover for the decisions they make, using company money, to save their own jobs.
Reminds me of that George Clooney movie from a while back where he goes around firing people. "Up in the air" I think.

Consultants are also used in situations like this to prevent lawsuits. They are paying the consultants to come up with objective criteria and then applying that criteria across the board so nobody can say they were targeted for a specific reason. Generally this means the positions themselves are cut, not cutting a specific person for performance which sucks.
Always remember what the first 3 letters of consultant spells.

Apparently I need to find better recruiters! I really engaged them for the first time in my career about 6 months ago. I don’t have a great network in DSM since we just moved back in 2020 and I’ve been remote. I’ve connected with at least 3 recruiters and here was my experience:

1) Guy at a big firm told me he could get me something at a 40% pay cut. Said I was overpaid and the best he could do is get me a role 3 levels below where I’m at. I could accept that or accept the ****** job I’m in with higher pay.

2) Lady at a smaller firm got me an interview right away. She had a small company who could meet my salary expectations with a direct path to c-suite as well. We scheduled an interview at a coffee shop. They never showed. She apologized and I never heard from her again.

3) lady at a mid-size firm found a good match with a smaller firm. Overall a positive experience but wasn’t the right fit for me.

So far I haven’t been impressed with recruiters and I don’t think I’m being unreasonable.
#2, do you know the actual company? That's ******.

Yes I do know who the company was. If I’m being generous, I think the recruiter got a little ahead of herself in scheduling the interview. She scheduled it like 2 days after my initial call with her. Reading between the lines, it seemed like the firm didn’t want the meeting once they had a chance to think about it.

That being said, they definitely could’ve handled it better. They could’ve reached out personally to explain why they didn’t show. Even if they weren’t interested in me, that would leave a positive impression. Now, I’ll just hold it against them forever :D

Assuming I don't get caught up in the Deere salary employee bloodbath that started today.

Hope you can avoid the axe. My daughter is in the new college hire program in Moline, and is stressing a bit. She had great performance reviews and is still cheap compared to more senior people, so I am hopeful she can dodge the chaos.

I worked at ISG for 4 years as a contractor, but now I work for one of the red tractor companies. Haven't heard of any big cuts, but I am usually the last to know when it comes to these things.

Anyone have a good recruiter to talk to in the ag/supply chain/management/warehousing world? Ag being the least important but it’s what my degree is in. I’ve been working for ag companies my entire career but agronomy has been a complete side note to my actual duties.

I’ve been casually looking for years but the whole process is just terrible. I currently work for a small company that has no job titles and no set responsibilities but I deal with high level work. Translating that work to another job has been awful, especially at my pay level.

Pretty sure there's an Ag recruiter on here.

Not sure what development program she's on but in the "hey sorry gang we've got to fire a few of you" meeting they claimed that those people were going to be untouched. That might have just been engineering specific though because to my knowledge the other orgs have not had that meeting yet.

So far this has only really impacted Ag engineering all the other divisions had a stay of execution but nobody seems to know how long that will be. My wife reports up through JD Financial as a software analyst and they are still way in the dark on how this is going to play out for them.

Sounds like some job cuts for some people in the printing facility at principal. Outsourcing seems to be the trend at PFG.

naw just dont plug it into your work laptop. power it from the wall outlet
Yeah, if you're plugging it into your work device, you're just asking to get busted on it. I don't use one personally, but I know several folks who do, including some of my direct reports. Luckily the company I work for doesn't really care about watching Teams status, but they don't exactly advertise that. I addressed it with my team and said "my official stance is don't use one, but if you do, for the love of God, don't plug it in to your work device." As long as the work is getting done, I don't care what their status is.

or post on social media what you (shouldn't) be doing at 2pm on a wednesday

heard of a friend of a friend who got called out from their employer for posting to their instagram story they were at a casino in vegas during workday they had not taken PTO for. they were promptly fired

sitting at your backyard pool while you "work" is one thing, gambling is another.

During the beginning of the pandemic, we had a guy who asked if he could move to Florida. At the time, the business had a policy that you had to live near one of their locations, even though we were all remote at the time. HR denied him based on that policy.
But he went ahead and moved anyway, and just didn't tell anyone. Fast forward a few months and the policy was updated to allow remote work from anywhere. He told some folks what he had done, and it eventually made its way back to HR, who asked us to pull his connection logs. They of course showed him working from Florida long before the policy had been changed and HR fired him on the spot. No discussion. No input from his manager. Just gone.

That's my stance. Is **** getting done and you're available when I need your/I'm informed when you'll be AFK for chunks of time? Don't care then.
