Suggestions for Falling/Staying Asleep!!

My doctor at the sleep study suggested something similar, she specifically mentioned asking my dentist to get 1 custom fit. I'll probably go that route whenever I have my next appointment.

I’d try this first. You mold it to your mouth when you buy in so it is “custom” technically. Plus, it’s $40 and if doesn’t work for you, you can send it back. A lot cheaper than going to your dentist. It works great for me (I’m on my second one).

Old man me does a 3mg melatonin, anything more makes my sleep worse. Was shopping for refiill the other day and it was 5mg and 10mg on the shelf....way too much for me.
 
Do you have anxiety problems? Generalized anxiety is a common problem and can cause mind-racing and frequent waking. If so, see a specialist and see what they can do for you. Also, there are quite a few good books to give you tools to help calm your mind when it gets out of control.

The supplements work but the effects diminish over time. They are only a temporary solution.
 
My dentist had me do a sleep study and I now have a sleep appliance for my teeth that helps me breathe better.
 
This is a big issue for me now also. Started after I turned approx 45. Mainly the waking up at 2-3am part. I really appreciate people's input and thoughts in this thread so far. I've cut out alcohol and increased exercise, that's hasn't helped. I think general life and career stress is playing a big role, but I don't know how to fix those right now.

What the heck do you do after 6 pm if it doesn't involve TV or a phone?? I could see that for a couple days a week, but some nights that's about all we do after dinner. I have read for like a half hour before bed in the past, but no way I could do that for 3 hours. Feel like I'd be more stressed just trying to find things to pass the time.

I've been fighting this for a couple of years now. I struggle to fall asleep, and when I finally do it's not uncommon that I wake up wide-awake at 3:00am and struggle once again to fall asleep. I've tried Melatonin pills but they leave me hungover so bad the next day that its worse than not sleeping. I'll have a glass of bourbon, which will help to fall asleep but then wake up at 3:00 still. While taking a toke of Indica works fantastic to remedy everything I can't use it for professional reasons.

Anybody else deal with this? What are your remedies?

Improvement in your cardiovascular health will go a long way toward helping you get a good night's sleep. How are you managing life stress?
 
Trazodone. I got a small dose for assist as needed. I take 25 mg whenever I have trouble falling asleep. It’s not a sleeping pill, just helps relax you

I was / am also a 3am waker. I take Magnesium and GABA . Works pretty good. I have also started to look into Cognitive Behavior Therapy . There are a couple of high priced apps that have the program but I have been finding my own info on places like Reddit. Those strategies helps me go back to sleep much quicker than anything else I have tried.
 
Product called Sleep Aids are the bomb. You can buy them at Dollar General. They are not addictive and it’s the only product that lets me sleep through the night. Even past my 3:00 am restroom break and no I am not going in the bed. Sometimes I take 2 ibuprofens with it and it is the best night sleep.
 
Tried C-PAP (C-Crap more appropriately) and finally went to a dental device. I tried full face mask, nose only mask, and soft pillow for nose. :pWorld of difference as it won't shift every time I move. Only problem I had was dreaming I had a mouthful of bubble gum stuffed in my mouth, but that stopped.
I'm in the process of going that route too. Just submitted my sleep study to the dental office and am setting up the consultation. I just couldn't get along with the C-PAP, hated it.
