What about...Pharrel Payne.

Here's his transfer highlights:
Looks like a bit of a hybrid of King and Ward although the highlights had a conspicuous lack of any jump shots.

We ran a lot of offense this year through Ward/Jones at the top of the key (maybe King too, don't remember him out there as much) and I was often thinking, if any of them could hit a shot from there that would be a great dimension of offense to have.

Nobody is doubting his athleticism. We all know he’s a freak of an athlete. Putting it all together for him just seems like a very lengthy process that may or may not ever happen.
He's not going to get better without game reps and just by being all over the portal with big guys it appears he, and probably Rock, aren't going to get those reps.

I just worry that kids that are highly rated and more ready than Billiew are going to look at how he's been handled and decide there are better options out there. Just a different world than it was even 5 years ago.

King looked bad trying to assert on the block as well.
He had his moments. When he was “on”, we were a Final Four caliber team

Without him being on, and to a degree Milan, we became very reliant on Lipsey and Gilbert getting to the bucket

Dailey as a sophomore would be like having the good version of King more often

Agreed. If we could just build a prototypical big man with the athleticism of someone like Ward or this Pharrel Payne but could also stroke it with jumpers - wow! Haha. I know that's an NBA stud I just described, but I can dream.

Jackson looks good and has a lot of similarities to this Payne, but Payne might have a bit more athleticism comparing the two. Still, so happy they got Jackson from Charlotte, but I wonder if that will dissaude any other athletic bigs who may emerge...

This isn't being talked about enough. When we played Illinois, they massively sagged off of Ward and BRE because they knew neither were a threat to shoot outside of 3 feet from the hoop which allowed them to focus more on shutting Milan down and preventing the lobs.

6. You don't think 6 of those guys will be on the roster next year? Thank God for auto correct because with as much as you've been smoking there's no way you spelled all 12 of those words correctly.
I really think folks are going to be surprised how many guys transfer out. It will be more than you think. Not just for Iowa State.

Prior to any injuries or health concerns, Jackson was invited to the USA basketball U19 tryout. This after his freshman year at Washington St. Basically 1 of 30ish players invited. When healthy he is a great talent. No doubt other coaches knew this. He is a huge get and should be a huge impact in an offense that runs the dribble handoff from the top of the key. Especially because he can dribble drive and has a jump shot from the midrange

I'd put the over-under on # of guys (for ISU) who transfer out at 2.5.

What about this guy as a potential transfer target: https://insidetheloudhouse.com/post...tar-transfer-a-minnesota-big-man-01ht5za4zt42. Pharrel Payne.

Nobody's really talked about him yet (that I've seen), but according to that article ISU has interest in him as do a ton of other Power 5 programs. My friends who watched Minnesota basketball say he's got a ton of bounce, a lot of upside and is young. They also said he was coming on stronger as the year went on. He does look like he might duplicate Jackson a bit, so maybe we're not looking (and Rock is obviously a big body), but his highlights are nice. Lot of great blocks in there. The Minnesota paper I read called him the transfer that "stings the most." Anybody watch any Minny games this year and have a read on him?

10 plus points a game, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in 23 minutes a game seems impressive.

Here's his transfer highlights:

I watched most of the Gopher games. He is explosive. A high potential, high ceiling guy. He was inconsistent though. He has had back issues. I would absolutely take him if we can get him. I would love to see what a good big man coach like Green could do with him.

Best case scenario in my mind right now:

1.) Omaha fully buys in this offseason and starts to realize that 5 star potential early next year.

2.) We go for broke and land one of the more coveted forwards in the portal.

Those two things occur and no surprise departures we are a preseason top 5 team and legit national title contender.

It was a real limiter because Jones/Ward catching the ball out there really did nothing to facilitate an offense. They weren’t a threat to throw an entry to King (anyone in the post), they weren’t a threat to drive to the basket effectively, and they weren’t a threat to shoot.

All they could really do was handoff to guards off a screen or help move the ball side to side. It was frustrating that our half-court offense was built around those two getting the ball at the top of the key.

A post who can shoot and/or handle the ball well enough to drive. Or skip pass to open shooter. Or throw good entry passes into the post. Or really do any of these things effectively will take our offense to the next level.
