***Official 2024 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Thread***

I'm still baffled by DeVries' usage or lack thereof of Tucker late in that game last night and Tucker not hunting shots with the game on the line. I'm surprised it's not being talked about more.

I thought Drake was going to win that game fairly comfortably (comfortably being 6+ points) but they just collapsed when Tucker went out, which seemed to kill any continuity as he deferred the ball down the stretch.

A little off topic but some have mentioned on here; I'm glad we're not facing Drake. One of those games where all the pressure is on Iowa State. I think we'd eventually wear them down in the 2nd half (in the paint) and pull away but it could also be a game where we are not hitting shots/missing easy looks around the basket and Drake is hitting contested 3's.

THIS. I brought this up the other day on here but it's probably buried. Is he done coaching? I love him.
Didn't he retire because he was tired of dealing with all the crap that came with coaching and unrealistic expectations of fans? That's what I recollect. Can't see him being interested in Kentucky if that's the case.

He, and the offense looked like a bunch of monkeys trying to hump a doorknob over the last 2 minutes. They completely fell apart.

@HoopsTournament any way for you to figure out the most matchups that are the same between the men's and women's tournaments that occurred in the same year, regardless of round. I see that Nebby and A&M play each other first round in both and then Michigan State and Unc are playing in the women's now.

He seems happy not coaching and at 62, I can't imagine he wants to jump back into the cesspool that is college athletics right now... especially in the SEC. Unless he needs money or a challenge, I'd stay away if I was him.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if the average retirement age of successful coaches doesn't decrease by 5 years over the next 5 years.

Listening to some Greeny this AM on ESPN radio and had a guest on and they said UK is probably ready to move on from Cal. Said he's not very portal friendly.
First name: Oats but said buyout is $18 mil.
Second name: Otz but said buyout is $17 mil.
So that's $50 million before you even start paying the new coach, lol

Reality in college sports is that non-con games are the only metric we have prior to the tournament and playoff. It's what, maybe 35% of the total games. Then in all cases a good portion of those non-con games are pretty meaningless blowouts against bad competition. So when you get down to it, before the tournament, there are only a small handful of actual meaningful non-con games that tell us about relative strength of conferences.

So it's highly possible that conference strength projections can be a little off. Now, the Big 12 has clearly been the best league over a decade. There's too much data suggesting this overwhelmingly. But in a given year is it possible that it's overrated? Sure.
The disadvantage of using nonconference games as a basis of comparison is that some teams improve dramatically through the season while others don't. That's especially true in today's world with all the transfers. In some of those preseason, nonconference games the teams haven't even established their starting rotations.

It was the lack of NIL rules. Said he had no interest in having to re-recruit his own team every year.

Anyone butthurt about the way ISU plays defense needs to watch this FAU-NW game. Dudes basically getting tackled.

They're on pace for 16-12 at halftime (8-6 at 9 min mark). Every shot by both teams is an off balance rushed shot or airball.
