Super powdery and light snow so it's hard to tell, but Im gonna guess 2" or so in Ames so far. A few small drifts but can still see 75% concrete of my driveway and sidewalks.
Oh, gosh, you seem fortunate. I know I have sidewalks and a driveway and a yard, but everywhere is covered in snow with more coming down now. West Ames where it’s white, but not yet whiteout.

I'm extremely limited with this stuff so no clue what that means. To be honest I'd try and I would make it worse. It happens a lot.
Check what brand your furnace is and then YouTube it. It's pretty simple. A matter of pulling the cover off your furnace then typically 1 screw and unplugging a wire.

If you still don't feel comfortable then call a professional. But it really is simpler than you probably assume.

West Ames here also, South of Lincoln Way. I haven't ventured out, just what I can see from the living room window.

Sounds like a snow sleet mix in Marion right now. Winds slowly picking up.

Also sounds like the ISU wrestling match may be moved up to 5PM and be closed to the public.
Can confirm sleet. Not pleasant to snowblow in.

What are you thinking for totals in Marion?

We're about a mile north of Lincoln Way, and just north of Ontario. Pretty heavy snow right now.

Gonna take a loooooooong time to melt everything.
If only the melt would seep into the ground and not run off into streams, rivers, and lakes. I'm afraid the ground might be too frozen?

Our black lab needed to go outside. I opened the door, she stuck her head and gave me this look like, "F this dude." Our Chesapeake Bay ended up going out a few minutes later. Usually she loves this stuff but even she didn't want to stay out. They were outside a grand total of like 90 seconds and then barking at the door to come back in.

Gonna be a fun few days

Another thing to check when your furnace is doing that is the outside vent from the furnace. If it get's plugged with snow or ice the furnace won't vent and it won't allow furnace to start up.
