How bad was Oregon to lose to Campbell in a bowl game?

Well, a 4-3 team played in front of zero fans with no notable wins in a somewhat farce Covid season, now that you ask.

I dont know why I have to keep explaining this, but there was another game on this afternoon, with much better teams, larger fanbase, and on a larger network.

I was going to watch game later as could not be home but walked into two bars in NYC and isu-Memphis was plastered on every TV

WR development has been poor.

Defense definitely develops guys, that’s true.

This staff knows defense. They don’t know offense imo, just trying to follow a recipe

I think WR is tricky and hard to gauge. We’ve had some that didn’t and some that absolutely have. Noel this year alone has been completely different. And Campbell’s history at RB dating back to Toledo even speaks volumes. Even if those guys were super talented anyway, you have to credit the staff still. That’s like people who dog on Saban because he just has the best players. Well Texas had that for a long time and did nothing with it.

The offensive line is the Achilles Heel and it’s the one place you can’t be bad at developing. If you would have kept everything the same but just given us K State’s offensive line during the Campbell era we likely win the Big 12 during Purdy and Hall’s time here.

Edit: agree on not understanding offense in the year 2023 and beyond. Nate has shown some good things this year and hopefully he continues to improve too

It is jolting to see how our players have to make great plays (throws, catches, breaking tackles) to have our offense move the ball vs other teams that make big plays on great play calls that open huge holes or give QBs wide open receiver to throw to.

Honestly. Nothing public right now. I’ve said in other posts tonight and I’ll say it again. Campbell has gotten us to the most constant level of success in program history, and for that I’m very thankful. However, AD and him need to have an honest conversation about continuing to grow as a program. No I’m not saying conference title contender every year. I’m saying a reliable P5 program that doesn’t struggle to beat G5 programs most years, a program that’s has an average OL most years instead of a grade D or F line, a program that is not easily dismissed from future football realignment events that could lead us to no longer being part of the top tier level of competition.

How about you? What do you think?

If he would decide to beat Iowa every other yr it would help a bunch. 1 more victory and a little bit of instate bragging rights. I actually think they might have a chance to beat Iowa next yr. Becht looks pretty good and Iowa is going to be breaking in a new OC though I think it will be a lot like the old offense.

Noel has more usage. He was good Day 1 and regressed in Year 2 imo. Marginal development

The WR list of guys with potential that never materialized is much longer. Memphis had one of those guys score a TD today

That's great, I've been watching bowl games all week during the day while I work at home and I don't even remember who won half of them after 2 or 3 days already.

It was most likely background noise, not some must watch game that half of Manhattan took the afternoon off to watch.

KU actually gets A TON of money from their med school alumni and the younger generation wants to win in football now.

Look, I get your donate to basketball sentiment but we need a good football balance, that's what I'm saying. It's still the big earner.

I get what you're saying, but the ISU fanbase doesn't have the cash for football. We suck at football. We are who we are. We're not getting kicked out of the Big 12 because of that however. So why waste so much money on football?

Hopefully the college football world will come to their senses and force the NCAA and/or conferences to pay the players. Not the fans. Put a salary cap in place and really crack down on "outside" money.

Is that ever going to happen? Fu$k no. The college football world is too stupid and greedy.

If we want to spend our hard earned money on spoiled athletes, it might as well be basketball. At least we would have a chance.

He hated the matchup so much he called for a double-digit win numerous times on his podcast.

Listened to him on the call in show, he sounded dejected enough you would have thought someone kicked his puppy.

Why I say it’s incomplete really is because I don’t think the WR issue is with the development. The issue has always been with the route trees and scheme. This year is the first one we have actually had games where guys get real separation or look wide open like we see so many other teams do on Saturdays. Scates is the same dude imo mostly, maybe a bit faster now, but our route tree was so terrible until post Ohio this year.

And that goes back to your point about not understanding offense, which is a big weakness for this staff. It improved this year, so I hope it continues to do so.

Run the ball should get at least one coach fired. That’s total ********. If u can’t realize it’s not working and reorganize then u should lose your job. Ridiculous. Sick of nonsense.
