***2023-24 College Football Thread***

LOL was at Cy's house of trivia a few yrs back and one of the questions was about aTm somehow, I might have had a couple of libations in me and I said it's those collie F*ckers down at college station is the answer.
Their mascots are buried in a cemetery just outside the stadium. A&M fans made a fuss when they learned the 1997 stadium expansion was going to block the dogs "view" of the scoreboard. The solution: they built another scoreboard outside in front of the cemetery.

Thats actually the most positive thing abt A&M i have ever heard. Still a little weird, but in a kind and endearing way.

Like when an old lady has her beloved pet chihuahua cremated and carries his ashes around in a fanny pack.

Perfect day of football yesterday with the Canes losing to Rutgers, who WVU has an 18 game winning streak against, Kstate showing up for the Hateful Eight, and OU losing in heartbreaking fashion to the team that is taking their place in the Big 12. LOL @ Sooners.

TCU won our only playoff win.
Exactly. I’m not saying Oklahoma hasn’t been good. I mean…they have, and in most years, they have been dominant…in season. Buuuuut…they consistently choke on the main stage.

I saw this morning…Arizona forced 6 turnovers last night. They had a total of 6 the entire season going into that game. So…did they “force” these turnovers, or did Oklahoma **** the bed?

Good riddance.

Welcome to the SEC Oklahoma and may you enjoy irrelevance for the rest of your existence. Being Texas’ little puppy will cost you dearly.
exactly. This whole realignment thing is going to be like that phase in the late 80's, early 90's where people tight rolled their jeans. going to look back and wish they hadn't done it....lol

the top 8 SEC schools all hire coaches to consistently win the SEC and win 10+ games, make the playoffs and win a title.
OU is going to go from a consistent brand that wins to just another school.
and what will probably happen is those average schools are going to complain about they have to play in the hardest league of all time and can't win 10 games consistently, and it's not fair the ACC and Big12 get to skate by, etc. That is why its probably good that Arizona coming in not looking like dogwater.

Its going to be well documented in the next 10 years on how some of these teams turn out.
Take Iowa for example, I would bet the odds are really good they make the Big Ten Title game next year if they left the big ten alone. With the restructuring, they may not see it ever again as the odds that USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Mich, Ohio St, Penn St all being down are not good.
I think OU goes from a traditional 10 win team to more of an 8-9 wins. remember the SEC still has the 8 game schedule.

So will ESPN count this as an SEC loss since all you heard on their radio broadcast and media stories was OU SEC this and OU SEC that. And will they count it as a Big 12 win?

You know the answer. And it doesn’t matter. We all know where those wins and losses really go.

I would LOVE to get to the Alamo Bowl again next season... Dome guarantees weather for the game, great city, great date between Christmas and New Years..
Still not sure what happens to bowl tie ins with all these leagues shuffling? I would imagine the Alamo goes back to the the Big12 versus BIG?

Would you rather have the former Pac-12 Sun Bowl or the Holiday Bowl as a Big 12 bowl in 2024 and beyond?

I'm very conflicted on this.. San Diego is far better of a city to visit, but man is it pricey to travel to.. Des Moines to El Paso is a 17 hour drive which seems too far but I bet OSU, Colorado, Utah schools, AZ schools, and TX schools would travel better to El Paso though..

If OU has a seven win season next year, both Venerables and the Sooner AD are on choke collars, not even a short leash.

Rose Bowl is now a CFP game
Sun Bowl is open (ACC tie)
Alamo Bowl is open (I assume Big 12 tie stays, no knowledge though)
Holiday Bowl (This would make sense for B1G to take this since it used to be a B1G game)
LA Bowl (Open vs MWC) - Could be a candidate for a bigger sponsor and better teams
Las Vegas Bowl (Open vs B1G) - I'd LOVE for the Big 12 to get this one

this is going to be interesting to watch play out. I agree that getting the Las Vegas bowl game would be a good catch. easy to get to and cheap. Wouldn't mind the game being closer to the new year, but I get they only have so many TV Slots.

Agree, the Big 12 currently has 8 partner bowls for 14 members and I would guess they add another one for when the conference goes to 16 in 2024.

If we have to keep all of our current bowl partnerships, I would REALLY lobby to add Las Vegas versus any other Pac-12 bowl. If we could go à la carte between current partners and the Pac-12 games, I would love something like this:

CFP
Alamo (vs TBD conference, I would guess the SEC takes this)
Las Vegas (vs B1G)
PopTarts (Orlando)
Sun (El Paso, vs ACC)
Texas Bowl (Houston vs SEC)
Liberty (vs SEC)
Guarantee Rate (Phx vs B1G)
Armed Forces (Dallas vs AAC/CUSA)

I'd guess after the current contracts are done, the Big 12 and Yormark will push aggressively for better bowl games. If the ACC dies, it's mass chaos...
