Collegiate Duals Mon 12/18

Because I like all of ISU sports. I go to Men's and Women's BBall, Football, Wrestling, Gymnastics, etc. The We Will is easy enough for me to donate to. As mentioned, I feel as if each group had it's own collective we wouldn't get as many donations. I appreciate all the feedback and love talking wrestling with all of you.
Question are you specifically listing the sports you want your donation to go to when you go through the We Will?

I don't, because I feel that the We Will has the best interest in what is going on and I just don't have time for it. This isn't me saying that I won't start to donate to the Cardinal and Gold. As mentioned, I didn't realize it was a thing.

One other thing, and I am not saying this to piss a bunch of you off as I truly love wrestling (heck I started wrestling when I was 5 years old), BUT it has to be understood that Football and Men's bball bring in the revenue that allows us to have other sports. Is it unfortunate, YES, but it is reality. This is another reason I donate to the We Will, because I do feel they will give the funds to those that need it the most. I honestly feel the likes of wrestling will be able to keep athletes here easier because of our coaching staff, facilities, etc. compared to other wrestling teams. How many wrestlers do you see going to Penn State because of the money? I feel a majority go there because of the coach. Same goes with ISU. I feel that Dresser, DSJ and Metcalf have done, and will continue to, do an amazing job at recruiting and getting our wrestlers ready to compete.

There is so much wrong with what you just posted that I don’t know where to start.

Good Lord. [insertfacepalmgif]

Go ahead and start. As mentioned I said somethings I post is going to piss some off, but it is true. I don't have time to spread donations around, so I put it in the We Will's hands. Please inform me.

Money talks but in the grand scheme of things the argument starts and ends with his second line. We Will was formed and largely caters to football and mbb because that is where we need it as an athletics department to be viable. Without them wrestling doesn't happen. I really enjoy wrestling but this us vs them attitude gets old and makes it so those of us on the fringe that you need don't enjoy it as much.

I was just curious. It's a good point for others to know that if they don't specify to the We Will that you want it to go to xyz sport (in this case wrestling) it won't go to anything beyond Mens/Womens BBall and Football. For those who have an interest in supporting wrestling, they just have to be sure to let We Will know you would like a % or all of it to go to wrestling. For a lot of us though we push people who are interested in donating towards wrestling to use the current setup collective focused solely on wrestling.

This is what I was trying to say, but probably sucked at doing so.

Here isn't talking about Football/BBall being the money makers. He's talking about how we are able to get/keep wrestlers based mostly on staff, facilities and that NIL funding doesn't play that big of a role to retain. That isn't accurate at all. That's only what Tiger is getting at and he is spot on. It isn't a us verse them thing it is saying if you want to support the wrestling program through donations there are two ways of doing it. You want to donate to We Will great but just know that unless you specify some of it goes towards wrestling none of it will where as if you donate towards the Cardinal and Gold 100% of it does.

Tell you what, I’m getting ready to leave for Scottsdale, I will make you an offer to come out and be at the asu social and explain to kd and Ali and Robin how college wrestling works.

I’m guessing that you will have a different position after that

Relax it’s going to be ok.
Nope. Already considering him questionable for Jan 5th? That to me means he’s almost assuredly out for that one and that’s just a nice way to ease into it.

Must be fairly serious. Giving me flashbacks to last year. Good start to the season, then injury. Then significant struggles.

What does this even mean? Talking to them about sports at IsU making more money than others is silly because it is FACTS! As mentioned, it is hard to swallow. I wish all sports can make the same, but it isn't reality. So go on.

Everything in this post is extremely naive and not rooted in reality.

With 9.9 scholarships in wrestling, where do you think the depth that was on display yesterday came from?

But you do you.

If you want to have a non revenue sport and be competitive, you need the collective. Wrestling runs off of 9.9 scholarships for 40 guys. Football has 85 scholarship and Basketball, 15???.

NIL is more important to a wrestling student-athlete because they are doing this for little or no scholarship.

If we want to compete for a team trophy, we need NIL. Michigan and Iowa are spending lots of dollars on NIL athletes. I have to think PSU is spending more than they say, although the coach helps.

I don't want to watch a team that is doing the minimum and have a couple hundred fans at a meet. Those programs could easily be on the chopping block.

I wish we didn't have NIL, but we do. I wish we had 20 plus scholarships, but we don't
