I was coming to join the conversation but Crablegs summed up the concerns. I love the scrappy type and those who can be explosive but there has to be a certain level of composure. I was really hoping to see that get honed in a little more come this season. Plus, I would have liked to see him open up more. I won't count today as my end-all be-all opinion of Casey but it wasn't my favorite thing! It was good to see Anthony on the mat.
Casey and Anthony do not get along. I’m guessing that plays a role.

I think you’ve got to be specifically trying to be disappointed to take much negativity away from these wrestle offs. Familiarity always makes the results not perfectly indicative of things, so what you can tell is if guys are on similar levels. It’s a really good thing if Grice (who comes highly regarded) and Redding/Swiderski (R12 guys) have dudes in the room that can beat them. That means competition pushing each other and depth for inevitable injuries.

I assume the path to Swiderski and Echemendia in the lineup would be AE dropping to 141, which he’s said he can do but I imagine is not a fun cut.

I think we’re pretty damn deep, talented and the lighter half of our lineup will still be super young. Can’t wait to see Chittum and Feldkamp added to the mix as well.

love the fire and desire to be the best but

he has to keep the emotions in check.

the throwing of the head gear and the cursing

could of been called

flagrant misconduct had this been a real match.
It is a major issue Casey needs to figure out and in my opinion, he’s the only one who can flip that switch. I totally agree…having that fire is a good thing. All the greats have it. Where the really great separate themselves is how they manage its and Casey really struggles to control his emotions in a positive way.

My opinion, of course.

There were definitely some sloppy aspects of last night, but it's early, and overall, I was encouraged by the obvious depth this room has. Something that has been missing, and something that will make this entire team better and better.

Also, Tate looked like the real deal, until he started gassing. Give him a season to refine and add to his bag of tricks as well as get into DI wrestling shape, and he's going to be special.

Not trying to be disappointed, was expecting to see improvement, but didn’t. A lot of guys showed the same weaknesses they’ve always had. It wasn’t just slow pace 1 score matches due to familiarity.

Terukina - 1 td and stops wrestling. Same old story that won’t consistently win the matches he’s capable of.
Redding - gasses. Shocker
Casey - limited offensive arsenal, struggles on bottom, and lack of composure.

These are legit problems that have persisted through these guys career that I was hoping to see improvement, but did not.

Now I did post some positives as well, but I’m just having a hard time getting past what I saw from Casey. I just had such high expectations for him, and was hoping to see a different version this year. Very limited sample size, but he looked like the same guy who is going to struggle to get takedowns against the top guys, get rode hard, and in turn lose it mentally. Hopefully in a few months, this performance will be an outlier and we can see that Casey has fixed these issues. But seeing the same things we saw all last year gives me a lot of concern.

There isn't anything you said right here that wasn't said last night with a few of us watching.

Terukina just goes into a shell after getting one.

Redding I thought the tank would be there not sucking down but what showed last night it wasn't the cut that was affecting him

Casey good lord man it's a wrestleoff that in the end doesn't mean **** keep the composure cause there will be actual environments that are going to be hostile that will get to you a lot more. Also, hand fighting and clubbing is great as long as you are going to change up your offense throughout the match instead of waiting till the buzzer to do something.

I wouldn't look at the criticism as anyone trying to find negatives. This is what wrestle offs do for us. They give us a chance to assess and gauge where some of these guys are.

For example, I would've never thought to perk my ears up a bit more with those Frost brothers if I hadn't seen them yesterday. I was pretty impressed. I didn't anticipate to see Jacob take Redding out 10-5. That's awesome. That's the stuff I want to see to feel good about the depth in that room.

I also really enjoyed seeing just how jacked these guys are. Ben Durbin is doing wonders. The Frost twins alone are also a great example of that. Ben Visser described it as they came in with baby weight and are now fully jacked college athletes. haha

They will continue to wrestle off for their starting spots in practice but those won't be open to the public. I am sure there will be weights like 141 and 149 that will probably still not be 100 percent determined going into the first dual of the season. In the past, for example, 133 pounds with Ramazan and Redding. Coach had them swap starts to see who performed better in a live dual. That helped determine the true starter for the season but that was also with them going back-and-forth for a few weeks. There's also weights we can confidently say are solid like 165 and heavyweight.

After seeing AE next to Casey how the F is AE cutting down to 41? That guy is already shredded down not much left to give up...more power to him if he can suck another 8 but wow that would be brutal.
In his tournaments last year, I don't think he ever wrestled below 149.

Also, it looks like we already have some manpower at 141.

This. People can say one thing but no way he makes 141. He’s a brick shithouse at 149 as it is. If he lives in the weight room like I’ve heard, not happening.

If two guys are close, you likely will see them both until one proves he’s better. Lots of times these things solve themselves due to injury or a guy moves a weight or something due to an injury there.
