Horton is moving through the system quickly but need to keep him on track with his development where when he is called up he goes right into the rotation. Probably gets a chance to start the year in AAA in 2024 and maybe a call up at some point if he shoes he's ready. Don't want to see them rush him up nor tinker with him as a reliever.Plus Horton is a top of the rotation guy, he just needs more seasoning. It's possible he's the guy they decide will replace Stroman in 2025.
This year they have had to use Assad and Wesneski in relief at times out of necessity but got to decide going into 2024 which direction they want to go with them and stick to it. Palencia started this season as a stater then they sent him to Arizona for a but to convert him to a reliever and it's worked out well so far. They finally committed to Alzolay as a reliever after durability issues as a starter and he's thrived as the closer this year. It's beneficial to some of these guys in the system right now to commit to how to develop them going forward as not all pitchers can flex between starting or pitching out of relief and be effective at both.
