I like most of what you say, but WV -> ACC on so many levels shouldn't have even been mentioned. And, I think UCF in a decade, given their recruiting grounds, does make it a good play both with media value and quality of football.
Yeah, the ACC’s only an option if the B10, SEC and B12 all pass on a school. And that’s if the ACC even can expand without opening up their GOR.

The Big 12 has never been in a better negotiating situation than right now--the next 2-4 weeks

~ Big 10 appears to say 'no' to more expansion
~ Big 12 has a small window to grab Oregon and Washington
~ Big 12 new TV deal $31 million/school vs Big 10 approx. $70 million
~ BIg 12 would be a last resort for the uppity Pac 12 remaining schools
~ I'd be pleased with Arizona, ASU, and Utah to get to 16

~ West virginia (I like them) should try to get into the ACC
~ UCF? still don't understand this. They had 2-3 good fb seasons, and we now will never to get rid of them. They are a commuter school; annoying, and an afterthought in Florida. They don't bring eyeballs to the the networks.
~ Memphis, SMU, SDST, Tulane, UConn? Never understood the infatuation with old WAC teams, and the latter, etc. Just a terrible idea
UCF is a sleeping giant, look at the recruiting rankings and alumni base. I'm far more convinced they will have success than Houston.

Really? You don't think the doomsday sayers and Big 12 haters in the press and blogosphere (and it seems there are quite a few of them) would crank up the negativity once Oregon and Washington announce their departure?

As opposed to the other 100% of the time when crank up the negativity? Who cares?

To further illustrate this point^^^...

Watch this 25 min long podcast and count how many times they say: "We need to try to join the Big 12"

... I'll save you the time, it's ZERO!!!

**They sort of hint at it, dance around it, AND in fact they say everything that means the same thing but stay short of actually saying it, BUT THEY JUST CAN'T BRING THEMSELVES TO EXPLICITLY SAY IT!

***WHY????***
A) They will get A LOT of flack for it from a lot of Utah/Pac 12 ppl
B) Their egos won't let them eat that much crow.

They say it with out ever saying it, they're ready for the Big 12. lmao

What recruiting rankings? Their best ranking ever was 38, with most seasons being in the 40’s-70’s. Houston is a super low bar to have more success then. Like I hope everything works out but the idea that these schools are somehow going to make some kind of magic leap while facing a huge bump in competition is out there.

All the 2021 additions are projects, to some degree. But the B12 might not have stuck together, probably wouldn’t have inked as good if a media deal, and wouldn’t be in a position to poach PAC schools without them.

That said, with the PAC on the table and the ACC likely to be in ~10 years, there’s no reason for the B12 to take on any more projects.

As for the Pacademic snobbery, they need to put their money where their mouth is. As a conference, they should invite SMU, Rice and Tulane which are all upper tier Academic schools that play FBS and are in HUGE markets.

As for Cal specifically (and I like the Bears), if they don't like the direction of the Pac and don't want to lower themselves in the Big Xii, they can always join the other UC schools in the Big West for all sports and go Independent in football.

This is probably too much projection at this point, but what would 'contraction' look like again? and who would be the 24, and decide on, the "24" teams?

Thats the age old multi-billion dollar question. Who knows…networks are chasing the dragon and college athletic departments are just along for the ride.

I think soccer could and probably will gain some popularity in the U.S. but there's no way it will ever dethrone American football IMO. There's just not enough action, scoring, etc. American sports fans are wired differently from sports fans in other parts of the world. We'll see, but while I do think CTE/violence will impact football, I don't think it will be that major of an impact in terms of its popularity.

My own fandom for football has diminished significantly. If it's not Iowa State or the Chiefs I'm not watching if I'm honest.

You're also talking about a country where the #1 sport for close to a century was baseball, potentially the most boring sport of all sports and this is coming from a guy who has coached it for like 8 years now.

I don't know if someone already posted this link, and I feel a little naughty for doing so, but if you find PAC tears delicious (especially Utah tears), then you should check out this Utah podcast.

And this is why I don’t want them in the Big 12. All the attitude and snobbery of Texas, without anything Texas has to offer. They’ve been the most vocal about bashing the Big 12, I don’t think they’d do anything but cause problems while they are here.

Would WAOR cause problems if the Big 12 managed to somehow pull that off, maybe, but they haven’t been complete dicks to the Big 12 this entire process, while Utah has.

Plus, the 4 new schools helped stabilize the conference. Sure, we can say it was a no brainer for them to join the Big 12 but was it? Big 12 was reeling after OUT.

UCF is far away and is going to spend a heck of a lot more than ISU in travel. They aren't complaining. Also, ISU has remarkably done well in Florida in recruiting and UCF helps us and the rest of the Big 12 more in the state in that.

Wilner mailbag today:
  • Gives basically zero chance of OR or WA joining the Big12.
  • Admits Yormark outmaneuvered Kliavkoff all the way.
  • Says Arizona could easily jump and maybe the entire 4 corners.
  • Says Stanford and Cal are rudderless with change in leadership, but thinks they could both land Big10.
  • SD St > Colorado
  • Says PAC should expand with at least 3 now, but is expecting disappointment.
  • Hasn't been misled by his sources.
  • It's all Larry Scott's fault.

That's part of what I'm saying. To European sports fans, a 1-0 soccer (football) match is tense and filled with drama and beautiful action. To American sports fans, it's just boring as hell.
Yet I’d be captivated by a 1-0 NHL playoff game.

For how long will university presidents and AD's continue to believe the PAC on an upcoming deal and payouts? Any deal that might have been coming assumingly factored Colorado in, so the adjusted payouts on the future of the PAC would drop some from what was previously put in front of the committee. No network is going to swing big bucks at a league that doesn't watch the games on tv and doesn't attend games in person (okay, some of the teams do have good in person attendence), but now you are talking about league games that have even less draw. I guess you get to the point where you are so invested in the money pit that you are going to ride that horse to the glue factory.

All the P12 schools are delusional about their likelihood of joining the B10. If you read all of their message boards (except for AZ, OSU, and WSU) they all think they are likely headed to the Big 10. 12 years of realignment have made us much wiser
They are at least in the acceptance stage of their grief now, in that they know that this PAC thing probably isn't going to work out.

Good lord. I couldn’t make it a quarter of the way through that. Talk about your head being up your own ass… that doesn’t even do it justice.

One could say that Colorado is a bit of a project...but a project that has the potential to improve quickly given their decent fan support and willingness to pay their coaches. Sitting next to the ginormous Denver market has both positives (population) and negatives (many pro teams...the outdoors...etc.).
