I read it a year ago and read it again today.

But putting out 1 press release doesn't solve the perception problem that AAU is the gold standard.
And I clearly posted that ISU goes beyond the one initial press release to promote their strengths as described via their website and applicable social media.

What? When you have a commuter school like USF now be in AAU just because it has a medical school certainly doesn't suggest Ivy League like cult status.

So ISU should now add a medical school just because AAU changed their membership criteria?

AAU status has become increasingly diluted and less prestigious especially with their new adds like USF.
Where is Oregon's med school that keeps them in? They dont even have a Engineering school let alone a med school.

How did ASU qualify? They just announced the creation of a med school, after gaining AAU status, so somehow met the qualifications without a Med school first.

So I totally agree with AAU being overrated and skewed but you guys need to stop with the USF diluting idea. I know the US news ranking are flawed and much maligned on here but USF is actually 30 spots higher then ISU. Again not a perfect ranking system by any measure but just passing along that info
One of my daughter's good friend attended USF. He had an ACT score of 36. Evidently, USF has a tremendously innovative school for health studies and garners an unusually unique amount of cooperation from Tampa/St. Pete health services businesses. This doesn't necessarily offset the argument that having a medical school is too important according to the AAU. I just want to point out that USF is one of the more underappreciated schools in the country.

I know that ASU has made great improvements to their academic reputation but from what I hear, it's still pretty much that warm weather party school with hot co-eds that it always has been.

Regarding ASU, it sounds like they are pulling several departments that focused on medical in different schools in to one school now. So they were always doing it, but they just did a reorg so that it now falls in to one department, instead of several.

I almost hate to contribute to the AAU dumpster fire, but what ARE the criteria for membership?

Are there hard requirements and then you qualify, like $$ of research funding, # of profs / student, etc?

Or is it purely "voted in by the other members" like some mens-only club from the 1920s?

I don't get why people want to make the conference even harder for us given our natural head winds and it already being far and away the toughest league in the land. You realize there are just as many losses as wins to go around and punching upwards is going to create fewer opportunities to be at the top.
I just don’t like the MVC vibe it gives off. What other P5 conferences have different teams for the two major sports?

Damn a 36? Isn’t that a perfect score? I was happy with my 32, highest I had heard of in our area was a 35, good for them!

But the reasons given, dont hold up when you compare ISU to other schools still in, or getting in AAU.
Sure they do. Even you should be able to determine that ISU doesn't have a medical school, thus the AAU withdrawl due to AAU's increasing emphasis on medical research.

I think the primary criteria are that if you are in the Ivy Leaque or Big Ten, you most likely get in. If you aren't in one of those conferences and you have a large ag program, they'd prefer that you not be in.

Honestly, it seems almost as questionable as how the IOC chooses host locations for the Olympics.

The ACC.

Notre Dame is an all sports member that doesn't play football there. Would be the exact same setup and Gonzaga is a MUCH better basketball program.

Neither does Oregon, and they also dont have an Engineering school. The 2 main focuses of AAU.

They also only have 1/3 the total research funding as ISU does. The main focus of AAU.

So if it is about the things that the press release said, about Medical research etc. How does a school like Oregon maintain their membership.

This is my whole point. They give reasons, but when you put those reasons up against other schools in AAU, they dont hold up.

Eh, ND plays much of their schedule there, and is required to. Gonzaga, doesnt have FB so not a apples to apples comparison.

What is being discussed is more like the old Big East.
