Under the radar connections to Iowa

Not under the radar, but Elijah Wood is connected to (sorta from?) CR. Rented a house from his grandparents when I first moved here (they were realtors). That was pre-LOTR, I think "North" had just come out.

SIAP... John Wayne was born in Winterset.

Calista Flockhart used to have grandparents in Cedar Rapids. She and Harrison Ford were spotted around town a few times but it's been several years.

Terry Farrell is from Cedar Rapids. Her mom or dad -- I can't remember -- worked with my dad at Kirkwood. She was Dax on Deep Space Nine and then was on Becker with Ted Danson. She was also, until recently, married to Leonard Nimoy's son.

I remember John Wayne Gacy's most famous survivor, or perhaps his only survivor, was a guy in Iowa. Gacy did time in Anamosa for it, and was a model prisoner from the accounts I've heard.

From the creepy files, my Dad was police reporter for the Waterloo Courier and got to know Gacy fairly well, as they were often hanging around the police station at the same times. Gacy was known to kiss ass to cops to avoid suspicion.

True. His older brother Zach went to CR Jefferson before the family moved to LA and was in choir with @keepngoal and me.

Harriet Nelson, actor, and wife of Ozzie, and mother of Ricky and David, was born in Des Moines, although it's not clear how long she lived there.

Congresswoman Katie Porter (Orange Co., Calif.) was born in Ft. Dodge and grew up on an Iowa farm.

There was another Michael Boddicker from Cedar Rapids, of the Boddicker music store family, who was Michael Jackson's keyboardist for many years and ALLEGEDLY ghost wrote some of his hits.

I thought Bob Feller was common knowledge in Iowa.
Yeah I thought so too. He's in my mind the most famous MLB player from the state.

AJ Puk would probably be a little more under the radar since he's a Cedar Rapids kid. When he was playing in the Northwood League my sister in law was his host for that summer. She said his parents were super nice but he was a giant douche.
