*** Official Oklahoma State vs #11 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

This team has lost 4 out of there last 6 and let a horrible Texas Tech team beat them. They shouldn’t be ranked.
The weirdest thing is that the 2 wins were against the best teams of the 6 so they are more than capable of righting the ship. Collapse at Texas Tech still has this team mentally ******.

This team needs to stop making absolutely dumb plays. I know there's a talent cap on this team, but that doesn't mean you can't clean up the idiocy. There's playing tight defense, and being stupid with your hands. Combine both of those with some of the worst free throw shooting I've seen in my entire life, and you will lose every game vs equal or greater competition.

I think they'll get right, but as I said after the Tech meltdown: just get to the tourney.

How quickly everyone forgets almost everyone would have been giddy for 7 conference wins at this point in the season before conference play started. I know it's too soon for most to be rational right after a tough loss, but too many on this board never reach rational.

Wasn’t that Chuckie that said that?
I bet you're right. At the time, I was trying to figure out there voices, and the broadcast wasn't coming in great. Typical rural reception. ATT not so high speed internet! :D

There were several questionable calls that were at critical times against us. The Holmes charging call was awful. Don't get me wrong, we absolutely didn't help ourselves.

However after the home cooking WV received, I would think we would be the beneficiary of some calls at Hilton. Absolutely not. We average taking 3 charge calls a game and not 1 today. I can think of 3 that probably should have been.

Also, whatever happened to the flop T? Seems like that quickly went away.
I can think of 1 that Kunz took without even trying. Stop being a fool.

Why do they come out unfocused not ready to play in games like this historically?

Having a lead at half against this OSU team on a 4 game winning streak means you did something right. Maintaining at as they lean on their strengths and ISU doesn't have answers isn't 'not ready to play'.

Is this team experiencing the Tom Thibodeau effect from a long season of intense practices...intense games...not much rest...limited offensively anyway. Gabe, Grill, Holmes...lots of missed 3s and free-throws. Big12 grind along with TJs relentless way of doing things...hopefully can find a way to get some confidence back.

I see TJ on TV talking to the refs often. As was said in other threads, Johnny Orr went ballistic often and it wasn't like ISU just dominated the Big 8.
Truth be told, I don't know what the right strategy is when it comes to working the refs. But TJ's normal strategy isn't getting it done lately. I'm glad he isn't Fran McCaffrey for what it's worth

It would be nice if Cyclonefanatic members could shoot FTs for the team. 1000% convinced it couldn't be any worse than this.

The percentage doesn't even begin to tell the story. So many missed on the front end of 1 and 1s. Just brutal.

All of our remaining road games are against Top 20 teams (KState, Texas, Baylor). Given our road woes, those are all losses.

We have TCU, WVU and Oklahoma at home. We need to win all three to still get a tournament spot…
Well, according to the stat/number crunchers online, we have a 99.9% probability with 18 wins (2 more). So, I would say you are trolling. Hell, we have a 93.7% with only one more win.

I still like our team, we aren't going to miss the tourney, but this team has serious issues.
It doesn't all come from being 'gassed' either. Every other team in the league is 'gassed' at this point as well. It is our lack of ability to create offense in any way whatsoever, our inability to hit FTs, and our bad habits of not being able to play defense without fouling. The offense thing to me is a talent issue. We don't have any go-to scorers. Grill will get hot every 5 or 6 games. Gabe will score in double figures about 1/2 the time, but we just don't have the talent on the off side of the ball. The team has had some great wins this year, and I like our team. We hustle and play hard, and I am proud of them. But we just don't have the talent to score the ball in tight games, and that equals a middle of the pack finish in the B12 unless TJ can pull something out of a magic hat.
ISU's offensive floor is lower than every other team in the league. They are coached to win doing other things than score and have been good at that. But sometimes it comes down to who can get the ball in the hoop. Tonight was a night where the great things they do defensively were not enough to overcome ISU's offensive limitations.

The Holmes charging call near the end was EXACTLY the right call. He CLEARLY lowered his shoulder right into the defenders chest.... it was so stupid on Holmes' part. It's exactly the kind of things we've been doing lately that have killed us.

We got absolutely hosed at WV by the officials IMO, but not tonight. We just played terrible... and dumb.

That charge on him he dipped his shoulder right into the defender's chest. That was absolutely the right call. That was textbook Jaz.

The team is offensively challenged. Coupled that with poor free throw shooting and this is the result you get. The defense was there. However, OSU’s defense was just as good today.

OSU might play into like the 8/9 game. They're right there in the conference standings. Imo they've underachieved with the players they have.
