On to Kansas

Kansas fans seem more focused on their trip to Kansas State next Tuesday than ISU coming to town on Saturday. I'm sure Bill Self won't look past us, but not much noise I can find about our game.

Also, a lot of complaining about officiating last night, even though they shot 37 free throws.

It was actually 39 FTs lol and KU went 24-30 IN THE SECOND HALF

Lipsey vs Dajuan Harris Jr.
Grill vs. McCullar
Kalscheur vs ****
Holmes vs. Wilson
Osun/BRE vs Adams

For what feels like a first in my lifetime. We have a CLEAR advantage at the 5 against KU.
just curious...advantage how? Adams is very athletic/talented. Their guards are so good he often gets a ton of easy ones admittedly.

75% of Adams' shots are at the rim.. He is only 6'7" (maybe) 220. Osun, Big Rob are great defenders at the rim and will have large height and length advantages.

The way to counter that is run the Hoiball/Niang offense against us. Like they would do with Aldrich, Lucas, Robinson, Embiid, Withey, Cliff Alexander, etc. However, Adams is not a threat from 3, so you don't have to worry about him shooting in the pick n roll.

It's been the same story at KU as long as I can remember. If KU played to their level for an entire game, they'd likely beat most teams pretty handily since they usually have the ability to do so. Instead, we get the same last-minute drama every time:

- Road team plays tough and holds a lead with 5 minutes left. Hope sets in.
- Offensively, KU clears out and drives the lane, taking advantage of their athleticism advantage. The result it either a basket, a foul or a kick-out for a wide open three since their defender panicked and lost track of his man.
- KU starts playing defense much more aggressively and the fans get into it, which throws off the road team into a string of bad offensive possessions.
- KU takes the lead just under a minute. Road team loses composure and gets another empty possession. Foul, free throws, missed shot, another foul, more free throws and KU wins by 5-7.

The momentum generated in that building is impressive. And it must be destroyed.

I don't think you can overstate the amount of weird sh!t that happens in that building though. From ref meltdowns to banked in threes that place is a house of lucky/weird bounces.

ISU had them last year in the Phog too.

This is typical early January KU so far but I expect them to crank it up Saturday a bit then by February have the court tilted most games.
100% you want to make the trip to Lawrence in January and not February.

I gotta watch Brock Purdy this weekend. Will have to have two TVs going at once.
I can’t believe I’m actually going to watch the Niners game live and the replay of this massive Iowa State Kansas game. how soon after the game will ESPN+ have it available to watch?

This summary both impressed me and triggered me at the same time. Going to Phog has basically been nightmare fuel for the rest of the Big 12 for the better part of the past century. This narrative specifically is virtually formulaic at this point, but ISU has figured it out better than most, and Otz willl have his team ready. Kansas must be destroyed.
Iowa State and Okie St have definitely had the most success there. Outside of the bad Prohm years Iowa State has either taken KU to the wire or they were in it until the last 4 minutes and KU pulled away.

I feel like those games aren't available for replay until the next day but I could be wrong.

This is Year 27 of the Big 12. Kansas has lost a total of 14 home Big 12 games.

4 - ISU
2 - OSU, Texas
6 other teams (3 current, 3 former) have 1 win each.

0-fer: OU, TCU, WVU, CU

Welp time to grab our 5th (hopefully)

I think the biggest advantage is that KJ Adams is basically their only post player. KU doesn't have their traditional big that is 6'10+ and takes up space in the post. Their other 2 "centers" have played a combined 40 minutes total in their 4 big 12 games.

KJ has been damn good in Big 12 playing, avging 16 ppg. Iowa St needs to find a way to get him in foul trouble. He's had 4 fouls in two big 12 games, and fouled out of another. However, I'm not sure the lob over the top that was used last night against tech will be effective.

When Iowa St is on defense he may be a mismatch for Big Rob, but between Osun (hopefully), Rob occasionally, King and Ward, there should be plenty of fouls to play aggressively the whole game.

Yeah I wouldn’t call it a clear advantage.

In my experience ESPN+ games are usually available on demand pretty soon after the game ends. Like within an hour. You might have to search a little for it. I usually click on the link for Big XII conference games and go from there.

There have been instances when the main ESPN App home page doesn't have our game listed in its on demand section right away, but it'll be in the on demand section via the Big XII conference page. Just my personal experience. Also nice that you can zip through the commercials.
