Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin

Yeah, I'm constantly amazed at what the human body can go through. The training, endurance, equipment, etc protects so many lives and we just take it for granted. I'm shocked there aren't these types of events all the time. But obviously incredibly grateful.
Agree. I'm right there with everyone else who "oohs" and "ahhs" when those monster hits happen, forgetting these are sons, fathers, husbands, brothers, putting their bodies through it to provide a better life for their families.

I will say that I don't cheer for big hits any more. That has changed over the years for me.

This. I’m honestly shocked they haven’t called it. Nobody is asking for this game to continue. Figure out the details later.

It’s very very rare but it almost always involves athletes.

Love that the guy who called me a ******* know it all deleted his post
Very much appreciate your perspective. My FiL is a retired ortho surgeon, am always fascinated watching games with him and hearing his takes on injuries that happen.

I remember when Roscoe Parrish for the U got blasted again the Noles. That was one of the wickedest body hits I have seen.

I think everyone wants to know, what happens here? Is this survivable? What will the hospital do when they get there given he reportedly has a pulse but isn’t breathing on his own (note: I am most definitely not a doctor)?

Yeah, you think of some of the injuries in a car wreck (aorta ruptures, etc) and can't help but think some of the big hits we see could be right up there with that level of impact. As another poster said, sometimes milliseconds of variables (heart being full of blood vs not).

Seeing the other players raw emotion really got me. This is their friend that they just saw in a very traumatic situation.

I don't think ESPN ever showed them administering CPR did they? If that's the case, I'm really glad they didn't. It was very tasteless the way that the euro broadcast showed people administering CPR to Erikson.

Also, I feel bad for the espn crew and announcers. They don't have any updates, they have nothing to say, just show something else and come back when you have an update.

What do you feel the prognosis is given how quickly he was administered first aid?
Unless it’s something very exotic it’s text book commotio cortis which since he got cpr/aed treatment so fast his likely hood for survival goes way up. Think with immediate intervention it’s close to 70% survival rate. That number is almost reversed without immediate care. Make no mistake it is a traumatic injury with a high fatality rate.

I’m guessing that all the reports so far are from people seeing things and guessing. So, it would be hard to say if he was breathing any on his own and just getting assistance or was being fully bagged.

No ****. Not sure why it hasn't been canceled yet. If you take the most cynical view, the NFL should cancel it just so they look good.
I never realized that it was the league office who got to decide whether to call the game. I would have thought that the coaches and officials could make that decision

One of my friends is a sport medicine doc, and his accuracy in calling injuries is ungodly.
