I heard last week that ESPN owns something like 14 bowls games. So many of the games are just a made-for-TV game to fill ESPN's schedule.
ESPN owns/operates 16 bowl games. 11 of those are games that they created out of thin air in the last 20 years.
12 of the 16 pre-Christmas bowl games are under the ESPN ownership umbrella, and the other 4 are usually right after (between Dec. 26-28).
