That's an odd move
That's completely bizarre. Especially with the expanded playoff coming, not sure why he didn't just stick around at Coastal if it wasn't going to be a clear level up into a P5 job. Strange indeed, but you could tell how checked out he was. Once the news came out he was leaving, Coastal just basically stopped playing and were destroyed down the stretch.

Coastal isn't going to quadruple his salary. Liberty pays like a p5 without the expectations, easier road to the type of season the g5 teams will need be in the cfp hunt.

What's his angle though? At Jackson St I got it. That was, let's overturn this system together. Believe. Now its, "look how I got to the next level, now you can too"?
Come play P5 football for Primetime. 18 year old kids will listen if Deion Sanders walks in their house.

Liberty's also an independent, so they can't get into the playoff via the "highest ranked conference champions" method.

I'm not disagreeing with the salary, as that makes total sense of why he left Coastal. What doesn't make sense is he has been a name that most P5's want, so not sure why he wouldn't take a big pay raise AND have a shot at the CFP. Even in CUSA, I don't see Liberty ever getting to the CFP, as they will be taking a step up in competition. I also think the American will be the perennial G5 champ that gets in from that standpoint.

But like you said, the stability of having the job without a ton of pressure is not something to shy away from either. He just seemed like a guy who is pretty damn competitive and was waiting for the right moment to go prove it at the P5 level.

The AAC's other G5 competition will be the MWC. I can see Boise, SDSU, Fresno pushing Memphis & Tulane for the G5 bid.

However, I am not convinced that P5 Commissioners will rollover and give G5 schools an auto bid each year. Would not surprise me if they don't put a ranking floor (e.g Top 15/Top 20) to get a Playoff spot.
