We shouldn't have to overcome 14 points spotted to good teams. The refs don't have to be perfect, but they should be consistent, and today they were neither.
I agree with you 100%. We don't have any control over bad calls. I think Campbell was correct to take a time out and yell in that refs face. The players need to execute better when it mattered. I honestly thought the special teams were going to lose it for us but they played well. It was a good game and I think we are better than Baylor.

Not exactly sure.
Well, no..............not on that part of field at that time of the game against that opponent. It's in the rule book. Really!!!
What difference in where in the field? College is anywhere as long as the ball isn’t in the air. Pros you have 5 yards.

For me it's not as much about Freyler's call being bad as it is that the same thing doesn't get called later. I see this in other games too.

The below the waist one was crazy bad. I also thought Dekkers getting called down when he was sticking with a play was bad too.
Totally agree. Hey…if you’re going to call the Freyler play, it sucks, but “okay”, just as long as it’s consistent. It was not consistent.

Refs are giddy about rule changes and to flex their muscle calling them..

New rule changes in 2022"

1- blocking below waist outside of pocket.
2- Targeting..What people might not realize is targeting now is simply leading wtih crown of helmet anywhere above waist.. Not just helmet to helmet..

Call on block below waist was atrocious...

J Brock literaly got hit helmet to helmet with crown...twice and no call.
Well, 2 is what spearing was, nobody ever called it.

And also throwing someone out for that type of hit.

Repeating but if it's a launch or head butt that's clearly intentional, sure, that's up there with a punch imo.

That is all
They were horrendous. To not even know the rule on the Anthony Johnson TFL that they called an illegal block should result in a suspension/sh*t canning.

You have to have officials on the field who at the bare minimum know the rules of the game, even if it's a new rule for this season.

I'm still fuming...

Yeah, consistency with targeting calls is just all over the board. And it'd be one thing if that inconsistency was just game to game, which would be annoying but you can live with it. But so often its wildly inconsistent even within games.

Should just make it a yardage penalty. Even if its more than 15 yards.

You got a TD on review. I think it was the correct call, but could have easily been reviewed as Play Stands.
The block below the waste on the pulling lineman was a miss. I can see why he called it from where he was, but it was a bad call on a conversion down.
I truly don't have a problem with any other call
You are an idiot.

Was leading with the crown/spearing not a penalty before all of this or am I remembering it wrong?

It's one thing to call targeting and boot a defender for a hit on a defenseless receiver. I can live with that.

But ejecting a player for a crown of helmet hit on a running back around the line of scrimmage is a bad rule. And it's a horrible rule when officials call it inconsistently.

Well we learned today that a CB taking on a blocker like it's a preseason drill is not a football play. So there's that.

It's sets the tone of the game as well.

All of a sudden is defense is thinking over everything instead of reacting.

That's not good.

It looked like his (Freyler's) shoulder made contact pretty much at the same time as his helmet.

I've seen similar plays ruled as non-targeting after review. There was supposed to be more of an emphasis this year on hits that were clearly leading/launching, rather than hits like Freyler's.

You are kind in thinking it was a matter of ignorance. They knew what they were doing out there. Hoped this kind of thing would end with Texas and Oklahoma leaving. Unfortunately they still feel the need to give their chosen schools a hand up. It would be really nice to find another conference, this one will never be worth a s**.

That call was mystifying. I never did see a replay, but it looked like perfect technique.

It didn't even look like Johnson was low. We are getting to the point where rules are putting DEFENDERS AT RISK of injury!!
