SEMO Starting QB

How to get recruited: Have your mom mail the college coach a letter . . .

I knew it was my mom’s fault I was never recruited. She never wrote a letter.

As long as this isn’t a team like Louisiana who was a top 25 team, or an in state rival… we should be more than fine. Or a team like North Dakota State… but I think we are better now than we were then as well.

Pretty much every game in September other than UNLV and La Tech have been a struggle.

Don’t be shocked if this is a bigger challenge than it should be.

SEMO's last FBS opponent results:

2021: Missouri - Loss 28-59
2020: COVID/no FBS opponent
2019: Missouri - Loss 0-50
2018: Arkansas State - Loss 21-48
2017: Kansas - Loss 16-38
2016: Memphis - Loss 17-35
2015: Missouri - Loss 3-34 (Missouri was ranked)
2014: Kansas - Loss 28-34
2013: OIe Miss - Loss 13-31
2012: Central Michigan - Loss 27-38
2011: Purdue - Loss 0-59
Looks like they're long overdue for that elusive big time upset. (God, please note, this is supposed to be a joke, not a prophecy.)

SEMO’s head coach was also Campbell’s defensive coordinator at Toledo so there is obviously some familiarity.

Low key hoping this is the classic “slowly choke the life out of an inferior opponent” type Campbell game instead of the “give me a heart attack in the 4th against an inferior opponent” type.

I can see it being like the Akron games a few years ago.

Kind of a slow burn and win by two to three touchdowns.

Or triple overtime with a bunch of weird plays.

I think this game will be a slow grind for us. Were breaking a new starting quarterback, despite having some playing time, still needs to get used to full time duties. We will probably keep it conservative for him until he gets comfortable. I think we will be in the high 20's as far as score goes.

Defense I think will be fine, but there will be a learning curve there as well.

How did this guy win All-Conference at his previous school when his completion percentage was under 50% (171-349)? If this is the best that SEMO can provide, this shouldn't even be a contested game.

How many of those games have been against an opponent this bad? Don't be shocked if we win by more than you doom & glooms are expecting.
None, and ISU is winning, probably by multiple scores. But that wasn’t a good UNI team that had the ball down 6 at the end of the game against the most veteran team we will ever have.

The reason I say this isn’t doom and gloom, but in the likely event this is a bit of an ugly win people shouldn’t freak out, and the season isn’t over.

There's all sorts of teams that have weird opening games against lesser opponents every year it seems.

Issue is if/when ISU has that weirdness, it's been pretty indicative of what the first month will be like.

One advantage is this is the first time in a while that ISU has new faces out there so maybe we see real expansion of abilities.

This game could be big trouble as SEMO Coach Matukewicz's bio states: "Tom Matukewicz’s process-driven Southeast Missouri football program". Sounds like Campbell's "trust the process". As noted in a previous post, Matukewicz comes from the Campbell coaching tree so he is familiar with the "process". :D
