MLB: ***2022 MLB SEASON THREAD***

Been talked about but the schedule and the big changes for 2023 has been released. MLB posted a good summary. Less division games and you will play EVERY team in MLB. Interleague games bump from 20 to 46, big change. Will be interesting to see how this plays out for divisions that have been strong recently and those that have been deemed weak. No more complete feasting on a couple of bottom dwellers for 19 games each.

The unbalanced stuff was getting really old. 19 games versus each division opponent was just WAY too many.

I like it. Tough break for the AL Central.

Thanks for posting this! Cleanest explanation of the changes to the schedule I have seen so far.

I thought they were doing 14 games vs division opponents. They must have went to 13 since they axed tiebreaker games.

Amen to this. That got really old.

As a Yankee fan I am obviously pulling for Judge to join the 60 homer club and even out the number to three cheaters from the steroid and growth hormone club by adding another non-cheater to make it three non-cheaters.

Judge might do that with Stanton back, assuming Stanton hits like he was. Maris had Mantle behind (54 HR 128 RBI) so he didn't get pitched around and didn't get an intentional walk the entire 1961 season.

I'd love to see Judge do it too. He's a great player.
It will very interesting to see how high the $ number goes in order to re-sign him.

Not to trying to start a "most valuable" versus "best player" argument between Judge and Ohtani but Judge has been crazy good the last couple of months (and Ohani is really heating up this last month also) with absolutely no one hitting behind him to protect him. Rizzo has been in and out of lineup with injuries, Stanton out for a month and now hitting half his weight etc. Think Judge wins but if Ohtani repeats this year in 2023 he gets it again.

Yank fan, so Judge is my fav but I absolutely love Ohtani. Wish Ohtani didn't play at 9:00 every night and for a team that can't seem to even sniff the playoff. Don't care that he doesn't offer a lot of quotes in English, dudes expressive as heck and a just oozes cool. And who "quotes" ball players other than some old gems from Ernie Banks or Yogi Berra?

Sean Roberts and Trent Condon were debating this last week on The Drive, and while I rarely agree with Trent on much, I did with him on this topic. He said, "the title is most valuable and not most outstanding." He said if you take Judge off the Yankees, they are not leading the AL East. He said if you take Ohtani off, the Angels are still a struggling team. This, in his opinion, makes Judge the technically most valuable though what Ohtani does is certainly worth noting.

Fixed that for you. If I was a Cleveland fan, I'd be thrilled because they are so young. Sox are just a mess with a manager who can't stay awake during the game and the Twins are only interested in cheap broken pitchers.

The teams in that division certainly aren't world beaters...but a race is a race and they play each other enough it will be fun to watch. Frustrated White Sox fan here...but if they sneek in...they have the pitchiing to scare teams! Problem is...they can't score runs at all!
