So a handful of non con games between the PAC and ACC will save it? Doesn’t seem to raise the value that much.
Sounds like the discussions that were happening right before PAC 10 tried to take 6 Big 12 members. So a handful of non con games between the PAC and ACC will save it? Doesn’t seem to raise the value that much.
He also says Thompson put Oregons value at 30 MM. that is wrong, he estimated the PAC, with the 10 teams at 30 MM average. I would say Oregon is higher and their state school is much lower.I was not aware that St. Louis was a Big 12 market.
I agree with everything you wrote. I just hate to see ISU fans be complicit in the "X school has no redeeming value" position. It was and is used to describe us, and it sucks.I am sure their fans are fanatics and WSU is a solid university. All I am saying there is a hierarchy in college sports regarding media rights value. Unfortunately, Iowa State isn't top 35-40 from a a TV Rights $ perspective. Unfortunately for Washington State they aren't in the top 50.
Plus if the Big12 expands west, I would prefer the new adds are geographically similar. At this point, our best chance is to add CU, UU, ASU & UA with UU the closest to WSU at over 700 miles away. Now if Washington & Oregon were to join the Big12- then I would consider Oregon State & Washington State as long as the combined value of the 4 schools would be accretive to the Big12's per school media rights payouts.
Sadly, realignment isn't about great academic schools, awesome fans or great campus culture- it's all about the media rights value of a school. And does it grow the prospective conference's average annual revenue/school.
The one exception, is if one of the schools added exceeds the current per school payout by a wide margin then it can subsidize a lower media rights value school.
yeah combing two things nobody wants isn't going to workSo a handful of non con games between the PAC and ACC will save it? Doesn’t seem to raise the value that much.
There is such a thing as diminishing returns. See: TexasIf the big ten is valued at 1.5B with 16 teams that is going to be hard to swallow. And if notre dame comes later it’s going to get crazier.
Teams like northwestern and Iowa would get 600-700M more than us in the next 10 years just on tv alone. Not to mention their actual other revenue streams.
Ok - This is a long podcast, but HOLY INFO OVERLOAD BATMAN!!!! - Awesome listen and def worth your time.
Keep in mind, money does not necessarily equal wins. For every win someone gets in these new super conferences, someone has to lose. Guessing we’ll see a disparity play out on the football field in those conferences- even if they’re all richer. If the big ten is valued at 1.5B with 16 teams that is going to be hard to swallow. And if notre dame comes later it’s going to get crazier.
Teams like northwestern and Iowa would get 600-700M more than us in the next 10 years just on tv alone. Not to mention their actual other revenue streams.
Loose partnership sounds like someone you hook up with for occasional one night stands. Not someone you want to be with, but better than doing yourself.I mean, the Alliance worked so well, this "loose partnership" sounds like a surefire can't miss!
May not be a 4 star, but it pays the bills.
Did Bowlsby screw this up?
Reid Gettys!I said you were right, dude! You can't front on Clyde the Glide...
