Well this stinks. My daughter is verbally committed to play for a PAC school not named UCLA or USC. Her friend is committed to UCLA and I’m guessing that she won’t be thrilled with the news either.

Conference realignment, transfer portal, NIL are all bad for the sport and fans IMO.
In 15 years, when viewership of CFB is down 20% nationally, will they even care? The overall pot may shrink, but those at the top will find a way to get paid.

Every big brand joining the B1G and SEC is not good if you don't have a place at the table, and it seems unlikely ISU has a place at that table.

The problem is that all these big brands expect to win. That's is not going to happen as consistently for each school in such a conference. The pond for the Big 10 and SEC is being filled with more bigger fish; those fish will eventually decrease in size as a new pecking order takes place.

I think that college sports could all be regionalized the way that wrestling and baseball are now. Only a few pockets of the country will actually care.

Add either 2 or 4 out of Arizona, ASU, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and Washington and the Big 12 is in a really stable position as the clearly 3rd best conference.

Not good for the sport, but then neither were the last 157 rounds of realignment. Happy to be spectating on this one.
True, but this is different. I never really believed that we would get to a college "pro" league, but if this happens you only need a few more pieces to fall in place and you've got it. SEC and B1G break off from the rest of the schools and suddenly everyone else is a 2nd class citizen.

I'd think you'd go after Oregon, Washington, either Arizaon/ASU, and maybe which ever one has a good consistent ratings.

Yeah I think Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and one of the Arizona schools.

We'll already have BYU from Utah and we definitely don't need both AZ schools. I hate to say it but that's the best of the bunch and the rest can go to the new Mountain West which would be a really good conference still. It's kill or be killed at this point though.

Ill believe this when it actually happens
Its this for me. It seems odd UCLA would be allowed to leave Cal behind. And if you're picking up private schools in CA, why in the hell do you leave Stanford out?

USC/Stanford seems more plausible for me.

Yep. Nothing about realignment since the formation of the B12 has been good for the sport overall. You see it in dwindling attendance numbers. Concentration of all the athletes at fewer schools will give those teams incredible depth, but also locker rooms that are nasty to manage. Good luck. Iowa State will continue to exist but we’re going to be the equivalent of FCS now, along with everyone else outside of the SEC and B1G.

The fact that due to geography and dumb luck, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Rutgers will somehow have more of a piece of the pie than us, or Oklahoma State, or now most of the Pac-12 schools, is just ludicrous.

This is getting really interesting. IMO there's not enough quality product top to bottom on any of these scenarios. Nor is there any parity built into this dream league. By poaching better teams you create another loss for someone else; meaning the top dogs fall OR the bottom falls further.

If my gut is right on our new commissioner, the difference will be the marketing. Right now, the B12 is matching the viewing markets of the SEC and the B1G by spanning more time zones. The 'product' the B12 offers is better because, san Kansas, there's more parity across the entire league. That means the football viewer will get better games in the B12. And grabbing other viewing markets only feeds the marketing this guy can bring. I like where this is going.

And one final comment. All these teams being poached have fallen into mediocrity (by their own measure of ego) in recent times and $$$ wasn't the reason. OK losing to ISU, TX losing to everyone, USC no where near where it was, UCLA huh? Trust me, they're getting brands, but marketing the 'better' games will be the winner.

Are we sure the opposite doesn’t happen and Big 12 schools get poached?

ISU would be well positioned if a "Pac 10" tried to get in the central time zone. ISU, KU, OSU, and Tech would maximize the viewers.

The Big 10 may go for Oregon and Washington next. After that, they would try to decide between Colorado and Stanford (to woo Notre Dame).

Notre Dame last stated that they didn't want to join the BIG because the only school that was similar was Northwestern. If the BIG states, we now have USC and can add Stanford, does that make you more comfortable? I can't see Notre Dame in the SEC, even if the SEC has Vanderbilt and and adds Miami and Duke (assuming Duke basketball doesn't fall off the table).
