Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

It’s got to be all about the money. Texas makes absolutely no sense. The last time they had a guard drafted in the NBA was over a decade ago with Cory Joseph.
I will interject a contrary opinion. I have never been convinced Hunter is an NBA player. This is not sour grapes. I wish he was still at ISU. Will be an excellent college player. At his height, you better be lighting quick and a deadly 3 point shooter to play in the NBA. Plus, have a great handle. He can still develop those skills - but I am not certain.
It might make a lot of sense to maximize his college earnings, in case the NBA dollars never come. Although, I suspect he could make big $ overseas.

This is kind of my thinking. If NIL is as ridiculous as it seems, this could very well be peak earning time for him.

It’s curious, isn’t it?

Back to Hunter, and taking away the emotional piece of him leaving Iowa State, I don’t understand a move to Texas. I mean…at all.

As @CyPunch mentions, Texas already has Marcus Carr this season as well. Carr is a decent shooter, but it’s not as though he torches the nets from deep. Would they move Carr off the ball? Can’t imagine he’s a SG at the next level.

Obviously Texas has money to throw around, and I’m sure I’m missing something, but it seems like an odd basketball fit.
It feels like a Beard tampering move tbh. Ppl had noted that he did not seem to be a fan of Otz.

Hunter isn't even close to NBA material right now unless he develops a much better shot. Go to an Iowa Wolves game sometime, it's full of 6'8 guys I've never even heard of draining shots from all the court.

Then again Westbrook can't shoot worth a crap and he has been around for ever. Actually what Westbrook is doing is killing guys like Tyrese. NBA and NFL go through these different era's. 10 years ago guys like Rondo and Westbrook were all the rage. Guys who could run the show but struggled to shoot. Then Stef Curry came and showed that a shooting guard with handles is the way to go.

Good for Tyrese on getting his money, but this move tells you all you need to know about those advising him. Texas is just a terrible fit with Carr, Rice and Morris. There's no way Carr moves off the ball, and no way Tyrese can play the 2 at his size. I just cant see him getting enough minutes.

So I guess good job on cashing in, but going from a team where you are the guy with the ball in your hands to a backup will be an adjustment. It's pretty obvious this was done with zero eye towards his long term benefit.

Rumors that Texas stud commit who is a PG might be asking out of his LOI now lol
That just seems like a bad choice for Tyrese. At least pick a school and coach known for developing PGs.
Out of curiosity I looked this kid up (https://247sports.com/Player/Arterio-Morris-46094923/) and then started browsing at where the top 2022 recruits are going. Looks like that Wal-Mart Arkansas NIL money is coming through. Arkansas with 3 of the top 18 recruits.

I am not a Westbrook guy for many reasons. It’s been proven you can’t win a championship with him. BUT Westbrook is/was an athletic freak and does things Tyrese is nowhere near doing offensively. Both can’t shoot worth a crap but Westbrook’s ability to get to the rim at one point was almost second to none, especially considering his size. His ability to facilitate with his attacking mindset was big too.

Tyrese has to get way better going downhill if the outside shot never comes around.

Not only him, but the vast majority of college athletes. In regards to their athletic careers. I’d love to be able to see five years into the future to know how this will all work out.

man that is a curious basketball decision....had to be a better option as far as money and basketball sense....he will prob be fine, but this could really backfire on him, lot more risk that I would be willing to take

And honestly that needs to happen for NIL to perhaps not turn into a total perpetual mess.

Yeah, he has a ways to go.

Texas will be a weird team again next year. Somehow they got even worse as a shooting team. They could roll out a lineup of Hunter, Carr, Mitchell, Allen and Bishop. Only one of those guys Carr is an ok three point shooter and he is only about 33% and very streaky. Teams will be able to just clog the paint and force them to rely on the outside shot.
