Larry’s shenanigans that got him fired wouldn’t even get a tweet from Goodman in this day and age. He got a raw deal.
Larry had a lot more going on than got reported. He was notorious in KC for hitting on anything that moved. I was at the game in Columbia the night he went on his Natty lite tear. I think the writing was on the wall because Morgan coached the entire game. During timeouts Larry didn't even talk to the team. Stood by himself away from the huddle. Kinda weird to watch.

People still bag on McDermott's time here, despite his successes since leaving. So regardless of how prohm does, give it at least another decade.
And rightfully so. McDoormat stunk up the joint while at ISU. He was a bad fit, and caught some bad breaks, but he apparently has learned from his utter and abysmal failure.

And it sounds like he was a mess well before that.

He very effectively coached the best team in ISU history by a long shot and needed to go.
Both can be true.

See how easily Stormin derailed this thread. That’s his MO. There is only one thing he wants to talk about, and he takes every chance he can in every thread that he can. He’s a one trick pony. Personally, I would prefer he keeps his trolling out of the recruiting threads, but whatever.

Best team ISU ever had, and I chose to believe the best team in the country.
Anyway - I was the long time president of the Northeast Iowa Cyclone Club. One day, Larry was to be our guest speaker. He finally showed up about 2 hour late, drunk as hell. Half our attendees had already departed.
He was really funny though.

The days Larry had three hour practices of all rebounding drills must have been the bad hangover days.

From the Larry E. files, heard a story many years ago:

1. Golf outing, he basically had a beer caddy, for like 2-3 beers/hole for everyone.
2. Sucked all day, in the sand, etc.
3. Last hole, bet everyone something like $200 and nailed it without flenching. Was just hustling everyone.

Stop whining and place him on ignore then.

Drinking with co-eds at an opposing school wouldn’t get a mention? It certainly would. A decent AD might suspend him and let him get treatment but it wouldn’t have been glossed over.

A year before the story broke, I had a friend who worked in another Big 12 athletic department tell me that LE needed to tone it down in public. His issues were no secret to anyone in the college basketball world. The difference today is that everyone has a video camera in their pocket at all times, so I don’t think things would have been allowed to get so out of hand.

As always, blame Van de Velde.

He had his hands full with Wayne Morgan as well. Back in my ISU pep band days, the two of them were behind me in line for airport security. We were on our way to New York for the NIT. Wayne had his special-needs son in tow (who wasn't handling it well), so he was throwing a fit and taking it out on Bruce:

"This is ridiculous! They're treating us like damned Al Qaeda!"

Bruce was trying his best to calm him down. :prohm:
