We need everyone to shoot to be successful on offense. For all the air balls the one make out of 8 or 9 or 10 or whatever his % is is what sticks with defenders and opposing coaches. There’s a lot of psychology in basketball. It’s the same thing with the TH “he’s not a good shooter” hand wringing around here; are you going to just let him shoot open 3’s because he’s not an amazing % shooter and let him build confidence that extends to the rest of his game? This is the reason why D1 coaches make millions and we just talk about it on the internet (some even pay for that privelege).

I'm ok with a couple shots a game from 3. But they better be WIDE OPEN. Gabe needs to get downhill versus settling. It's just not a good possession to have him shoot a 3 in most cases.

Too much was put on his plate last year. I think a 6th man role could be perfect for him. HIGH energy defense and attack the elbow and paint with his size.

Gabe thrived in the Wisconsin game at attacking the elbow and paint. I really like his post up game and want to see him use that more.

I wouldn't mind Holmes coming off the bench if we get AJ. Some good maturity and scoring off the bench and he has some experience at initiating the offense

He’s the going to be the best and most experience defender on a defensive oriented team. Do the math.

While I agree with the thought I doubt any transfer that had Holmes starting experience, production, and is used to playing 30+ minutes a game would chose a program where he wasn't expecting to start. Holmes is a top 30 transfer in the portal and had options to better his pro prospects that accepting a backup role would hurt. I'd be shocked if he wasn't a starter.

Whether he starts or not, he'll be playing starter level minutes. Same goes for Kalscheur, and likely Williams. The player who will lose the most if AJ comes is Grill. If between Green, Kalscheur, Holmes, and Williams they average 30 mpg that doesn't leave a lot of guard minutes left.

It’ll be a 4 guard lineup with Osun in the middle.

Williams
Holmes
Kalschuer
Green
Osun
Can see that to start but Tre King will factor in to the starting lineup soon after being eligible IMO. Not sure if that'll be for Williams or Kalsheur probably depending on their play the first 12ish games.

Some people here vastly underrate Kunc and how valuable of a defender and floor spacer he is. Maybe TJ will like him in a 6th man role, but I'd be shocked if he doesn't play the most minutes at the 4 next to Osun.
I’m not underrating anyone, I don’t think. Kunc is great off the bench though, and I think that’s where he will come from.

I like the 4 guard lineup but we rarely went with it last year and we were built better for it then than we are now. TJ didn't seem to like it.

That is how TJ used him most of the year until the end when Enruna got benched and think that is where he's the most effective. Kunc energy is perfect for the first big off the bench but can get over stretched with to many minutes. We also shouldn't over look his propensity to pick up fouls quickly. Too many times him and Conditt had 2 fouls before the first 12 min TO.

I actually like him shooting in motion/not wide open. Like many, when he just plays without time for thinking, he's fine.

I think it depends more on how many minutes he gets. Plus he can come in and be the lead role of the bench potentially. Lineups will be interesting for sure!

I would disagree. There was a lot of this kind of lineup...

Hunter
Grill
Kalscheur
Brockington
Kunc

That particular lineup ended a lot of games.

You can look at that lineup and easily understand why TH had so many turnovers. Not a very good ball handling lineup, fully on TH’s shoulders to do all of the dribbling and critical passing in that lineup.

I think we’ve addressed that problem this free agency season. Good to see the staff recognized that we needed to get better overall with ball-handling.

My hunch: Gabe is in starting 5 at beginning of season (possibly rotated out during early subbing) then eventually evolves into 6th man.

He is valuable in helping the new guys with their assignments and intensity. Same as Kunc. Also Gabe’s mid range game is good, he just can’t settle for 3s.

I don't think there was a lot of it, i think tj went with it situationally but we seemed to play big more often than not.
