Could switch Houston and BYU, just for geography.

The 2 Texas divisions can be tweaked for sure. I like that set up as all the religious schools are together. And yes, I know TCU isn't really a religious school, but as long as they have "Christian" in their name, they'll be treated like one.

Plus TCU and BYU have a good history of games together in the MWC.

Augusta National Golf Club
ISU, KSU, KU
WVU, UCF, Cincy
OSU, Tech, Houston
BYU, Baylor, TCU

Those are more than fair for everyone and maintains geography and rivals.

That is my EXACT thoughts as well.

North has no football power but is strongest for basketball

East is all the schools in the Eastern time zone. Good for early TV slots. Cincy is a football power. Weakest
basketball pod

South is good in both major sports. Probably the hardest pod

Religious pod makes scheduling easier as private institutions. Also breaks up Texas schools and reunites BYU and TCU.

If the Big 10 moves to pods.. You know Iowa will somehow luck out and draw Maryland, Rutgers, and Indiana most years.
One can easily be led to believe that the conference purposely sets up Iowa for maximum success. Otherwise they would average about 6-6. They last played at Ohio State in 2013. You go 9 years between playing at the top team in the conference!! Who does that?

Play everyone in your pod once in football then rotate 2/3 of the pods every year. Guarantee home and away games every 4 years for the entire conference.

Have a 2-round conference playoff with the top team in each pod to make a "9 game conference slate." #1 team in CFP ranking hosts #4 team. #2 team hosts #3 team. Continue the matchup's down the pod so everyone plays a week 13 game. Incentives teams to finish well in the CFP rankings and host a week 12 game.

Week 13 TV slots are 11:00 A.M. is Michigan vs OSU. 2:30 slot being the Iron Bowl. Big 12 could own primetime that week with playoff football.

Someone with more time on their hands should chart Iowa's cross division opponents.. I'd love to see that visual. Especially away games at Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan St (Dantonio and beyond).

I also say 22 conference basketball games. Maintain the round robin and helps with getting teams in the tourney.

Not sure how it will work for the Big 12, but for a 14 team conference, a 3-5-5 schedule makes sense.
3 protected rivalries
play 5 other teams in rotating years.

That way you play everyone every other year.

If we play a couple years it could look like this
ISU, KSU, KU, OU, OSU, TX, Tech, Baylor, TCU, WVU, Cincinnati, UCF, BYU, Houston

ISU - KSU, KU, OSU
KSU - ISU, KU, BYU
KU - ISU, KSU, BYU
OU - OSU, TX, BYU
OSU - OU, ISU, UCF
TX - OU, Tech, Baylor
Tech - TX, Baylor, TCU
Baylor - TX, Tech, TCU
TCU - Tech, Baylor, Houston
WVU - Cincinnati
Cincinnati - WVU, UCF, Houston
UCF - Cincinnati, Houston, OSU
BYU - OU, KU, KSU
Houston - TCU, UCF, Cincinnati

With a 12 team conference, you could go with a 5-3-3 schedule
ISU - KSU, KU, OSU, WVU, Tech
KSU - ISU, KU, OSU, BYU, WVU
KU - ISU, KSU, OSU, BYU, Cincinnati
OSU - ISU, KSU, KU, Baylor, UCF
Tech - ISU, Houston, Baylor, TCU, BYU
Baylor - Houston, Tech, TCU, OSU, BYU
TCU - Houston, Tech, Baylor, WVU, Cincinnati
WVU - ISU, Cincinnati, UCF, TCU, KSU
Cincinnati - WVU, UCF, Houston, TCU, KU
UCF - Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, WVU, OSU
BYU - UCF, Tech, KU, KSU, Baylor
Houston - Cincinnati, UCF, Tech, Baylor, TCU

One year ISU would get Kansas, Kansas State, OSU, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Cincinatti, Baylor and BYU
The next year ISU would get Kansas, Kansas State, OSU, West Virginia, Texas Tech, TCU, Houston and UCF

Does this feel like the first step to making the CCGs part of the playoffs?

Not exactly sure.
Hawkeyes not in favor of getting rid of divisions. Unless it means permanently skipping OSU, Michigan and purdue(because they have Iowa number)

Parts Unknown
This will make a lot of sense when USC, Oregon, and Washington go independent and leave a 9 team league until Boise St throws in

I feel like they've played Penn State and Michigan State fairly regularly but have missed Ohio State a bunch. Michigan is somewhere in the middle.

Not exactly sure.
Since 2014 when they split East/West and including the upcoming season:

Ohio State: 2
Penn State: 5
Michigan: 3 plus 2021 title game
Michigan State: 3 plus 2015 title game
So if they play 9 games and 6 are in division, that leaves 3 for the other side. 3X 9years is 27 games. So those four teams equal 13 of the 27. That leaves 14 games against Rutgers, Indiana, and Maryland.
