Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

It hasn't happened.
And it won't happen on a huge scale either. Maybe an isolated incident here or there but teams aren't going to want 18 guys on a team. That presents a multitude of issues for both the team and players.

Aren't teams limited to 15 players and are only able to dress 13?

If everyone is getting paid well then no one cares.
At 18 players you’d start to see the JCL vet exemptions. The 18th man making low euro money to just be injury insurance. Beats getting a desk job or bumming it in Ukraine occupied Russia.

A NBA aspirations need volume and pay.
But most just a paycheck. I mean, 13 guys do it for free now. Another 5 isn’t tough for the right price

15 is the current roster limit. I think we could see paid walkond. We should with Green this year

Won’t hardly need scholarships anymore. If the Arkansas kids all get NIL money they can have 7 walk-ons and no one has to leave.

I'm willing to bet in a 40 minute game where 5 people play at a time you will not see that.

Even as a coach, why would you want that? 15 guys who all think they need playing time? Hell even in the NBA you only see 9-10 guys play per game.

Honest question-- do any of you think pre-NIL that if a school like Kentucky or UNC wanted Tyrese they wouldn't have made it happen?
This hasn't been mentioned enough with all the hand wringing over NIL.

It's probably a done deal where he's going and the portal stuff is just window dressing to avoid tampering allegations.

I also find it odd that TH didn't just take this path straightaway and save himself some trouble.

He had offers from Fla, UGA, Miami and Louisville. All being well rehearsed in pre-NIL bagman type stuff. He could've been paid right off the bat.

Who knows why and I'm focused now on the guys we have and are targeting.

I'm old enough to remember all the Hawk hand-wringing over UK allegedly contacting Fredrick to convince him to transfer.

Sorry, if mentioned previously, but isn’t this similar to getting a one and done? I realize that they are going to another school and not the NBA, but is it really relevant in the long run?

Do you have a link for that rule? Everything I'm reading says a roster is limited to 15 players and only 13 can dress for a game.
Just anecdotal. UNI dressed 17 for games this year. 13 rides plus 2 super seniors plus 2 walk-ons and even without COVID has always dressed everybody at home and always has 3 or 4 walk-ons.

Might be one of those rules that doesn't get enforced to the letter of the law?

20 guys on the roster makes for the best practice team in America. And if they’re getting paid they can be happy.

I mean this entire NIL thing has completely jumped the shark. Are we just acting like actually playing basketball doesn't matter any more? A shot to make it to the NBA doesn't matter any more? You really think guys that would be starters and contributors at other high majors are going to be content to be scout team players?

We've lost our minds.

If they’re getting paid euro money, it’s not too different than a lot of these guys that go pro with little chance of getting drafted.

There are good players that know they won’t make the nba, and getting paid euro money to sit on the bench at a plush P5 program likely appealing.

Guys already take PT risks while going to places like KU/UNC/UK for free. Add $200k in NIL, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see a lot of guys like Yesufu at any program that can afford it
