Agree that I'm not terribly concerned about replacing his production. He was a very good freshman, and his game against LSU was phenomenal. His mental makeup was probably his best quality; though, which was surprisingly mature as a freshman but not something you can't find again.

Most disappointing is again what this means for the sport. With other transfers, you could point to them benefiting from a change of scenery (poor fit for the future, coach left, poor production, off-court issues). That's not true here. It's all money, and that's difficult to accept. (Again, not blaming Tyrese...but the sport is changing.) It looks like we're looking at annual mercenaries rather than "loyal sons forever true".
The only thing that these Loyal Sons are True to is MONEY...MONEY AND MORE MONEY!

MONEY TALKS AND BS WALKS AS THEY USED TO SAY!

Let’s define heavy hitters, if Boone Pickens & Michigan State billionaires are Barry bonds & Shohei Ohtani, we’d be…
Nick Punto and Rey Sanchez.

Maybe this guy:

This will be an unpopular take at this juncture. We’ll now land a more useful piece from the portal than we lost and Tamin Lipsey is also a 4 star Frosh.

That would really blow up the narrative.

Marquette is the only school I would give Tyrese a pass on. If he said he wanted to get closer to family and went to Marquette, ok then. He did have his parents pass away and I would be down with that. Pretty much any blue blood and it's a money thing. We shall see. I bet it happens really fast. My guess is they already knew the destination before the weekend started.

The rich get richer. College sports have been ruined with this ******* NIL. No reason to give a **** when the good players will just transfer to the blue bloods when they’re good. Having to pay college kids big money to attend your school just to compete is ridiculous and bull ****. Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina, SEC schools, Ohio State, etc will soon no longer even go after high school kids. They’ll just pay the top players from other schools to play for them. The sport is ruined and soon the sport won’t matter. Schools like ISU will have to bust they’re ass recruiting kids out of high school, develop them, only for them to transfer to the blue bloods for money.

Wait, so this means we now have a much better chance of getting five star recruits?

Not disagreeing that sports have a role in alumni relations & fundraising.

But for schools like UNI, Illinois State, South Dakota State is there a different scholarship funding model? Closer to what a Drake, Central or Grandview use?
There isn't. Public schools are always going to be at a disadvantage there because the accounting has to show that they university is being paid for the athletic scholarships that are being given.

Enough is what the market decides. Anything less is suppressing the player value via arbitrary rules. Why do that? Why should a coach get paid well but not players?

They’re employees. Just like students are employed all around the university.
Really? Last time I looked if I get a full academic scholarship or music scholarship that doesn't make me a university employee.

If your argument switches to athletes deserve to share in the billions that Athletic Departments bring in. Then what about the students, assistants who work in research disciplines that bring in hundreds of millions to ISU's Vet Med, Engineering or Ag Colleges? Should they hold out for a bigger cut of Grant Money?

Lipsey does seem to have some of the same strengths and weaknesses as Tyrese. The LSU game wasn't Tyrese's norm.

If we get a sharp shooter to pair with Lipsey that could ease the blow a lot. No idea if Lipsey can defend at Big 12 level which was part of why Tyrese was so solid as a freshman, when you take quality of competition into play Tyrese was among nation's best in steals. (3rd in Big 12)

I miss the old days of pre-NIL when we melted down about Harrison Barnes picking UNC over us.
Hambone moving closer to Utah by going to LSU, Wes Johnson's brother, Staiger leaving in the middle of the season to go to Germany.

But what if Tamin is really good and ISU goes to the NCAA touney again!?

When was the last time a PG transfer or freshman did well at ISU anyway!?

Assuming he goes to one of those programs. But what if he chooses to go somewhere like Wisconsin or Marquette or some other program that is scoring a bunch and racking up stats? Is the sport still broken?

Has Hunter said anything about where he's looking or why he's leaving?
For me, it doesn't matter where he goes now...cuz we'll never get to know if that school had the best NIL deal, or a better roster, or a better location, or an admired program or coach, or better NBA tendencies/contacts, ....... or better water(sorry, couldn't resist)
Lots of people getting scrutinized for how they are reacting to the transfer/player or the future of NIL, etc., but all of it would be so less mind boggling and frustrating if we just got a truthful, explanation. Then everyone would at least 'respect' it whether they liked it or not.
(and yes, in before the 'he doesn't owe us any explanation'..I get it)
