Nothing about this story is true.

- UNC is loaded at point guard. You have junior RJ Davis, a McDonald's All American, who just took UNC to the national championship game. You have Caleb Love, a 5-star McDonald's All American, who is probably coming back. You have incoming freshman Seth Trimble, a top 40 recruit. Then we have 5-star Simeon Wilcher coming in 2023.

- UNC currently has no open scholarships. If one were to open up, the immediate priority would be to find a stretch 4 who can offset the loss of 6'9" 3-point marksman Brady Manek. If a 2nd scholarship were to open up, the 2nd priority would be another wing scorer.

- InsideCarolina is the most heavily trafficked college basketball board on the planet. They haven't missed a scoop on UNC basketball in 20 years. Nobody on their premium board even knew who Tyrese Hunter was until somebody popped in to say "have you guys seen the rumor Iowa State fans are spreading?"

No one associated with UNC is spending $750,000 on a guard who shoots 27% from 3pt range. No one from UNC is tampering with a player who doesn't even have the slightest chance of getting minutes on our team next year considering we are loaded at his position next year (and for the foreseeable future.) I'm honestly a bit concerned you guys have taken such an obviously nonsensical rumor and run this far with it. This is flat earther level conspiracy nonsense.
This was a good post until you said someone who doesn’t have the slightest chance of getting minutes. That’s absolutely laughable and shows you don’t watch much basketball outside your conference and just looked at some stats.

Yep, I think Tyrese’s NIL market value is more than ISU can afford.
Well if schools/coaches can now 'legally' cheat, then I think when these gurus rank players for 2023 and beyond, they shouldn't have 4-star or 5-star behind their name, but instead NIL market value. Basically they have turned this into non-amateur sports. The millions of college basketball fans supporting these college programs , financially and passionately, deserve to know what teams are paying the athletes then. Do we know if NIL deals are made public knowledge?

The quietness by some leading posters on here is eerie. I'm not on the premium boards, but my pessimistic suspicion is that there's smoke here, and after the debacle of the leaked screenshot last night, they're being told to keep quiet.

All my opinion.

IRS is probably interested.

Only public knowledge in the premium board. Us peasants have to wait for that knowledge.

Agree on the smoke. Why the ISD reporter comes out and quote tweets "no truth to it at all" makes me even angrier now.

You better be right (unless you're just saving face) cuz I was just told by somebody their source was from the team and it is true.
I'm sure you can find plenty of people to tell you 5g towers are causing Covid too. It doesn't make their batshit crazy conspiracy theory true. And that is what this rumor is. A batshit crazy conspiracy theory.

You think UNC is tampering with and offering to pay a mediocre player at a position that is already loaded, offering a scholarship they don't have, so he can sit on the bench and never play, and somehow the most plugged in UNC insiders on the planet never heard about it? Really???

Right. That's gonna hurt his credibility so much if he's wrong. Unless your source is basically Hunter himself, why put your reputation out there?

Are you a UNC fan checking in here with us?

He wouldn't get minutes at UNC. He's not beating out better point guards who shoot a significantly higher 3pt % for a coach who emphasizes 3pt shooting. And we aren't going to play a small backcourt so he can get on the floor next to the better shooting point guards.

Nothing in my post was laughable. It was factual. You clearly have no idea who is on UNC's future rosters, what Coach Hubert Davis uses to determine playing time, and what system Hubert runs. He does not want small guards who can't shoot.

1. He's a college kid, let's not go overboard on concerns of credibility
2. When it comes to sports rumors, there's virtually never accountability for being wrong
3. Even if Hunter ends up leaving, it's easy enough to say "something changed" after the original report

I didn't realize he was a student. I see now he's from The Daily. Still, he's working to be a reputable reporter, and credibility is goal #1.

What does he gain by coming out with that statement? I see zero other reporters saying anything at this time.
