Feel like Murray is “home” for him and his family so this worked out great. Everyone gets to go home.
For sure. I know he's still relatively young (47) but I'd guess if he can get it rolling again, he retires there. Probably ends up as the AD or something when he's done coaching.

Call me a skeptic but he highly benefitted from having two NBA point guards at Murray State his first go around. One was an experienced carryover from the previous coach who stayed two more years. The other was drafted #14 after two years. There was no gap.
In that league, such players are quite rare and a big reason for the success. Is he finding those guys again? And, jumping up a league, he's going to need pieces around them even if he is fortunate enough to land them. He's also entering a league as a geographical outsider, so recruiting will add some wrinkles too.
I wish him the best and hope he succeeds bc he does it the right way and wants to develop more than just ball players. I can see where he's going to have to grow as a coach though to find new successes given the challenges cited above.

Good for him. Hope it works out.

Murray state will get worked in the new system. He will identify a player they prove their salt then go to Kentucky.

Well he is credited with recruiting both guys at Murray and essentially did the same thing with Haliburton here so his track record would say he'll continue to find great point guards (who are often under recruited).

McDermott vibes. Successful at mid-major, tried to move up and didn't work out, back to mid-major and back to being successful. Good for him. Murray State is obviously a good program.
And inexplicably, both had the pieces in place to be successful at ISU. They just couldn't make it work.

Pretty good deal for him, right? Goes back to where he loved and had success, and does so with a few more 0s hanging around in his bank account.

If SP does find more great guard talent, the new age of NIL will be a challenge he never had at Murray the first time around.
