WAY too early predictions for 2022?

What made Breece Hall so good is he turned -1 to +2. Silas and Brock barring a massive offseason jump will result in -1, but Deckers is 6 inches taller and a bit faster, so maybe less batted interceptions like we had vs Iowa, vs TTU, vs Clemson, but Purdy was very accurate.

Personally, I think that the talent drop from the best group of players in ISU history will mean that we'll take a drop in competitivenss. Maybe 5 wins? I hope I'm wrong but what are the chances that we don't slip in terms of our RB, LB and QB play? Encouraging that Hutchinson is coming back and Noel shows some signs of life but the turnover is going to be very significant. I think there are some good young players but it's hard to think we'll not drop off a bit next year.

I looked at the schedule and went the other way. I think we go 8-4 next year. The teams we are on relative par with (WVU/Baylor/KSU/Tech) all come to JTS. Protect home field, two noncon, Kansas and one of TCU/Texas/Iowa and that gets you to 8 wins.

Disagree. I think the talent on display last night on defense will keep us in a lot of games. I don't see a huge dropoff in talent. Also remember, Will McD, AJJr, and Vance are all coming back; that's 3 damn good defenders as a core to build around. I think we should be confident in Dr. Heacock's ability to put a very good unit out there.

The question is on offense. Manning MUST put together a new scheme that works with a different bunch of skillsets, now that the Breece/Brock/Chuck machine has moved on. I think Jirehl could be very good but he is not the same style runner as Breece, needs to be used a little differently too. I think guys like Noel & Silas bring speed that we haven't seen in a while; how to use that? Can we finally have an offensive line bully defenses, that would make life much easier for everybody. I think it's reasonable to be worried about the offense, I am not on the Manning is terrible train, but I sure don't think he has been anywhere near as successful as Heacock.

As far as W/L next year - I don't believe we even know the schedule yet. Will OuT be gone and we replace them with a couple tomato cans? Note those two are currently on the schedule with a bye between them - wonder if it is like that for everyone, in case they are gone, to make rescheduling easier?

Put me down for 7-5 right now, assuming we play OuT. If they are replaced by someone else, then I would say 8-4. We are not a basket case anymore, it's not going to be 2-10 hopelessness anymore.

Also OP- if you can't remember Dekkers name, then either:

a) you are a super casual fan, and probably shouldn't start threads
OR
b) dude, you can't wake & bake 6 days a week, you gotta cut back before you get brain damageamageamage

Need to run different run plays. Manning has plays drawn up as if we have Alabama's o-line.

I think the defense is better next year honestly. There is so much talent on that side. Any idea if Zach Peterson is coming back?

6-6 again, but I think that might be a struggle. Wins are SEMO, Ohio, Kansas, KSU, WVU, and Tech

Dekkers better be the real deal, cause this running game ain’t it.

I think the drop off will be smaller than most expect. Lets remember at the end of this season we're 7-6. Honestly with what I see from some of the younger players, I'm betting on minimum 6-6.

Dekkers will be a strict upgrade. Better in the pocket, mobile enough when needed, makes better reads, and a much better arm. Biggest question is the receiving corps (aside from X) and Tom Manning. O line is what it is (not great run blocking, average to above pass blocking). I think our RBs are above average. Defense looks like it'll be solid.

If we can get one more play maker receiver and not doggedly force bad run plays, we'll be in business.

Oh and almost forgot--hopefully we replace Mevis with someone competent.

We do have #13 coming back.

The Oline had some nice surges last night in the run game which was nice to see...which brings us back to wondering why you'd not keep at it.

3rd and 4 is much better than 3rd and 10 after a wasted long developing 2nd and 10.

Hadn't seen an announcement on Vance coming back. Is that official?

I'm planning to go to DKR, would love that to be a W. Maybe I shouldn't go, haven't seen a road W since the last time I went to Lawrence. Lubbock and Norman this year, Dallas last year, no away games in 2019, San Antonio in 2018. Maybe I'm the problem??? :jimlad:

Would have to disagree. Noel has started for a good part of the season over Shaw, Scates etc. and has shown he is a stud. He's a proven starter next year.

Hope you’re right. I think he has the talent to succeed. Honestly think he could have been used more this year, but that’s a Purdy/manning (mostly manning) issue more than a Noel issue.

Every time I think about issues with this team I keep coming back to manning lol.
