LSU Coaching Search Article

Football scoop that has a lot of "in's" with the Coaching community said recently on a podcast that they think Campbell is the guy LSU wants as well. We shall see...

The thing with all the national buzz....USALLY most is click bait and easy takes (i.e. look at a record of a coach and assume they would leave for greener pastures, etc). BUT, I would imagine, those truly in the know do recognize CMC is a different type of coach/leader that would bring a culture that is easy to get behind and probably know he is a "football guy."

Maybe it's cause I have the most biased pair of glasses on, but Campbell leaving for LSU or USC just seems so culturally wrong against who he is as a human being. With those schools, you have to deal with bigger ego's and crazy admin with sometimes unrealistic expectations. I get those other programs have built in advantages that Iowa State will never have, but he has it made for him in Ames.
I'll wait and start to freak out when James Franklin leaves Penn State for USC...

I know we always get lots of threads on this.....but as it's been said before, ultimately CMC can do what he wants and owes us nothing....and if some of the $$$ numbers you see with some jobs are true, we could never match.

BUT, it does seem he "is who he says he is" in terms of values, development of men, etc....and I imagine the thought of building and getting success here is SO gratifying......and while he could make TONS of money at a, say, Florida, could literally be out of a job in 2-3 years when the "ball doesn't bounce his way"

There are people (donors and people connected to the athletic department) who are worried Matt will take a different job this off season. However, there is nobody inside the athletic department that has gotten anything from Campbell that would make them think he won't be here next season.

This weekend might be pretty telling. There's no way Campbell is having any discussions with anyone right now. But if there starts to be a lot of smoke this weekend (more than the typical being put on an article's list for X job) then I'd start to get worried.

Even though it’s all been taken out of context, a fanbase like LSU’s is NOT going to be too happy about getting a coach who had a perceived loaded roster, preseason #7, Big 12 title hopes and didn’t come anywhere close to living up to it. And then made the comment about the Big 12 title/championships not being a goal (again NOT what he said but it’s what everyone outside of Ames is rolling with) in that press conference last week, and how it was about becoming the best versions of ourselves, etc.

Not going to go over well with a crazy fanbase like that the second you start to struggle.

So this culture of leadership at LSU potentially intentionally "leaking" a name of someone they are super interested in and how poorly they must of done their homework on who CMC is would really be on par for their department as a whole. And is exactly the kind of thing as to why he would never go to a place like that.

I know it was a little tiny clip by Fox, but that moment where CMC was talking to Brock....that is the most father/son relationship I've ever seen between a HC and a player...Campbell just has a different mindset than other coaches. No, this season hasn't panned out the way we had hoped but Campbell is a culture guy through and through and these large programs have major culture issues that he'd have to completely overhaul.

LSU has expectations that are impossible to meet. Championship in 2019, fired in 2021.

That's true but their program has completely collapsed under the weight of transfers out, culture, controversy, all of that. If Orgeron had been a competent CEO overseeing an otherwise stable program but just losing more than they should, he surely would have had more time.

Simmer down. People as in people close to the program/athletic department.

Also it has been said above, but Football Scoop is hearing similar things and those guys are usually spot on and in the know way before any national media.
Unless I missed something all Football Scoop said is LSU is interested in Matt Campbell. That is very different from what you are implying.

It'll be really interesting to see where he ends up, if he does in fact leave, and how it lines up with our preconceived notions of the types of jobs he would take.

When I think of a job Campbell would leave ISU for, I look for 1) a low-drama AD/athletic department, 2) a relatively sane and highly supportive fan base, and 3) "cultural fit" which I admit is really subjective and heavily influenced by #s 1 and 2. Or the NFL, which is probably more dependent on geography and the ownership.

If he goes to LSU, it really upends everything we thought we knew about him.

Same with USC and PSU really.

I posted this last night, but there’s two scenarios that come to mind wrt MC leaving ISU:

1. He feels like he has nothing left to accomplish at ISU

and/or

2. He gets an offer he can’t refuse that checks all the boxes for him personally. Be it monetarily, family based, location, etc.

I think we’re still a good ways off from #1. I have no idea what’s in his head or his heart, so #2 isn’t worth worrying about.

Which means taking a program over like an LSU would be a big challenge in creating that culture at an LSU...but why would CMC back away from a big challenge? I mean...he took the challenge of leading a program that has been horrific (us) and built it into a program whose fans are angry that we didn't win at least 10 games this year! I hope CMC is in Ames for 20+ more years! But I understand if he sees other opportunities as appealing and wants to take a challenge like that on. If he and his family want to do it...he should!

Hard disagree on Penn State. I'd worry about that job if it came open. That's a fan base with expectations but they aren't SEC crazy. Obviously the athletic department has had turmoil but that's well in the rearview mirror.

But yeah, I'd be surprised if he went to USC. That seems like a real fairweather fan base more than a crazy one. I just don't see a Midwest guy with young kids uprooting it all to move to LA.
