I'm thinking 8-4 is pretty damn optimistic. I would think 6-6 or 7-5 would be the norm. It will be (as it has been) where coaches go to die...surrounded by all the riches in the universe.

If SEC stays with 8 conference games then UT can schedule 4 wins outside conference games so getting to 8 wins may be doable.
You can't say they make have no sense.
The league will evaluate whether the PAC schools are available when they see the next PAC contract and whether the B1G poaches 4-6 of those schools. If the PAC remains intact then the argument for BSU, is its content for a late night window which this league might get paid a premium for. BSU has also been entertaining content that gets decent ratings against MWC competition and should be elevated in the B12.
They could decide to pass but you can't say they make no sense. I do admit I think the league has to give San Diego St. serious consideration if they are going to 14 and no PAC schools are available.
I used to hate Boise State, and if the PAC 12 falls apart they will not get in the BIG XII but....
If the PAC 12 gets a good contract I have to agree that BSU has had decades of success, Idaho is a growing state and it would expand our footprint out west.
Texas will have winning records, its just their chances to win conference championships and make it to the CFP just got lower. I mean, they will still have to play Oklahoma.
They CAN schedule 4 wins. However, there egos usually get the best of them and they schedule someone that can and does beat them. Hell, Arkansas just wood shedded them.
I looked into this once and i found something interesting. In the WAC Boise state was allowed to recruit partial to non-qualifiers for football. Just like Nebraska's "prop 48". I assume that is over with since they moved to the MWC.
So being able to recruit players that can't make it into other schools has to help a lot.

This is true, but Arkansas looks pretty solid. I’m still not convinced Texas will be terrible this year.

Interest in adding Boise and SDSU better just be a ploy to get the Pac12 to drive USC and Oregon out by inviting two G5’s to a conference already teetering.
The moment any more G5’s are added to the Big 12 is when you know at least two of the leftover 8 have lined up an invite to SEC or BIG. If the networks are twisting Bob and the Presidents to add Boise before the next moves in realignment, they’re getting played again. Pass on the short term bump, see what becomes available
At this point, Ok St/KU benefit more from staying in the Big 12 over going to the Pac12 or ACC with inherent instability. You could make a case that WVU/KU rather be in a depleted ACC, but at that point, a pseudo merger likely makes both sides happier.

Glad to see someone that agrees with me on KU. It is not a football school and will not be able to go to a football conference. They have spent their conference tv (football) income on basketball while ignoring their antique football stadium and facilities.
Everyone seems to think that the B1G would want them.....HA HA HA. The B1G would rather take Louisville, a school with both better basketball and FOOTBALL.

Louisville is ranked 187 in university rankings. The big ten doesn't want them or Kansas. There are only about 4 schools in the Pac, and 4 schools in the ACC that the Big ten would want.
No one is taking Nebby. They are stuck with their egos and terrible athletic programs.

If you're the AD at USC and Oregon in 2025, what's stopping you from demanding 1.5 revenue shares like OUT would have got if they stayed in the B12? They have all the leverage. Who would the PAC12 backfill with? TCU and Houston? With the lost tv revenue that's probably not even making those two schools more money than they're making in the B12. And you know ESPN would love to get those two schools to break off if the PAC tries to negotiate with other companies. The SEC and the B12 need OOC opponents, ESPN could just help set them up like Notre Dame and watch as one of the alliance conferences crumbles.
Within the next 5-15 years (big range i know) USC and Oregon will no longer be in the Pac12. The alliance scheduling thing is meaningless because those games are already being scheduled and there is nothing enforcing scheduling more of those games. It is entirely up to the schools who they schedule. Its simply a bone to throw to those two conferences to help get their playoff votes.
Boise St gets love because they, on a percentage basis, are the winningest program in college football. They have had sustained success that is hard to come by. I believe some of those wins are credited to that cheat blue field, but much of it is the brand (see below). The problems with Boise St is that they check no other boxes beyond good at football.
I believe Boise St does have a brand and a following of casual fans. I've watched many of their games since they beat OU with trickery in the Fiesta. All time top 3 game for me. The problem with their brand is that they are the best of the group of 5 or best of the small schools. They are the perennial cinderella team. The moment they join the Big12, they aren't a small time school and a cinderella anymore. Do the causal fans like me care about them if they aren't group of 5's best hope? Probably not. They'll be just another Big12 team to fans across the country. The brand that makes them popular dies.
That's why we only take them if we get desperate.

I believe the new Big 12 is equal to the PAC 12 and ACC on a competitive basis and potentially revenue. I don't believe any of their schools are leaving to join us. For a team to leave all their rivals and geography that makes sense, they need a good $$$ reason. We don't offer $20M+ extra a year anymore.
We should sit tight, because with the NIL rules I find it hard to believe the SEC/B1G won't expand with the large schools from those conferences. At that moment, we may be able to steal the leftovers that everyone is hoping for.
