….Until we can establish our will on the lone of scrimmage... UNI games will be closer than we want them to be
By my count, among the six most likely starters for Coach Jeff Myers at the moment, all but Newell are straight up maulers. We have some road graders.

And Colin Newell isn’t exactly chopped liver in that department.

I don’t think this game is going to be closer than we want it to be.

But it’s a catch 22 right? You’ll never establish your will on the line of scrimmage until you do? If this year’s o-line is as good as it’s been advertised, we won’t have an issue with their line.

Last years Cyclones struggled with interior pressure against stud DT's. That is UNI's strength. Would love to see them attach the edges running the ball off tackle and behind Chase Allen as UNI's DE's and LB's are inferior to our players on the edges versus up the middle.

Even some GREAT Iowa lines have only averaged 3-4 yards per attempt against Farley's teams

We have a better run game than Iowa has had in a long while though.

UNI’s “stud defensive tackles” =/= OU and UT’s stud defensive tackles.

Iowa State has a better BACK than Iowa has had in a while. Iowa is still usually a clinic up front. (Do I have to point out that I'm a PanClone not a PantherHawk, here? :):))

UNI's strength is the middle of that defense. A DT that was a finalist for FCS national DPOY and was Valley DPOY plus three All League linebackers. Iowa State is going to have their best success on the edge putting pressure on they hybrid and safeties to shed blocks and fight traffic. Play action should also be successful as Farley is going to play run first.

I said a better run game for a reason lol it’s 100% true. I’m not disregarding Iowa’s ability on the O-Line, I’m just saying our run game has been better as of late, because it has.

And I’m fully confident our O-Line that handled Oregon’s defense 7 months ago will be able to do just fine against UNI’s line and defense. This isn’t a disrespect to UNI, rather a testament to how well our O-Line did against arguably the best defensive player in the nation last year and some very good linebackers.

This season goes as the offensive front goes for Iowa State. Plain and simple. The key is being that good right off the jump and not waiting until October/November to find it.

UNI will not be the only team that tries to stack the box against us. Any Def Coordinator should sell out to stop Breece, pressure Purdy, and force our downfield passing game to beat them. Shade help over Hutch or Kolar, see if Allen, Milton, Shaw, Scates can consistently win their matchups.

This will be the ultimate test of how much Purdy has improved with his decision-making. And if Manning has schemed more pressure-beaters and passes to Breece and Jirehl. I like our chances if teams play us 1v1 and Purdy has time to throw.

This.

I'm surprised more teams didn't play us like that on defense a lot more last year.

Wow, that's a pretty crazy point spread, but I'm guessing it will generate an equal amount of bets on both sides (which is what a good point spread is supposed to do).

The only way it gets there is if the UNI offense turns it over a bunch. That offense is inept but they don't hand it over. Plus, the UNI defense will be competitive for the first half.
