What router and modem did you purchase/ recommend to replace Mediacom's?

I bought ta Arris SurfBoard modem and the google mesh 3 puck system. Regarding the mesh systems it really depends on the size of your house and what you need for total coverage. Since the wife and I are both working from home we needed coverage for all three floors and this has worked really well. The Google Mesh is not cheap but it was worth it for what we really needed.

I'm glad you had a good experience. I read a lot of ranting posts on the community FB page (which is full of complainers) and didn't get a good feel for Metronet.

Yeah I am on the same FB pages you are on and tends to be a magnet for a lot of random complaining. They have no doubt hit some stuff along the way but if you think of the size of project they are doing and just how many things are buried that they are relying on the utility locaters to properly mark for them you are inevitably going to hit something once in awhile when you are digging through thousands of easements. I'd be curious if the same complaints are happening in West Des Moines right now while they are laying the conduit for the fiber network (I heard its Google fiber) as I would bet they have hit some things along the way too. We had no issues at all with Metronet when they came through our easement and haven't heard of anyone around us that had issues with them either so it's probably a very small percentage they had an issue with but as we all know those types of people usually are the most vocal when something happens they don't like.

Personally, I pretty much avoid social media reviews because it's always the whiners and complainers posting. Sure, maybe 1 out of 10 has a legitimate gripe, but it's mostly just stupid stuff.

When we were looking to book a trip to the Caribbean earlier this year one of the resorts we were looking at had a 4/5 star review. The reason it wasn't 5/5 for this person is because the resort didn't have honey mustard.

Honey mustard.

Valid complaint honestly. 1/5 stars.

We've had Metronet flags in our yard for several weeks now. I'm waiting for the giant disruption that everyone else seems to be getting.

I really like Mediacom and have all my own equipment. But I'm going to at least consider changing.

We have MetroNet recently installed in our neighborhood and thinking about changing form CL to them. I'm retired but my better half works from home so need a great service.
On a side note....currently have Direct TV and I'm tired of their price increases of $100 additional a month when you get out of their promotion period and you have to go thru the dance of calling them and getting another promotion for a year. Any ides about MetroNet TV packages??

I think they really need to fix your connection. I had similar issues with Mediacom and it took them 5+ trips to actually fix the real problem. Since then, it's been a rock. I'm also in a role that involves a few thousand people in the metro with most of them being on Mediacom and they've actually been pretty reliable overall. A lot of these are call center ee's that need rock solid connections 100% of the time. Since the pandemic started, Mediacom has had one big outage in the metro that really hurt us and that had something to do with fiber being cut in Washington D.C.

I tried Mediacom about 18 months ago and I gave them 3 months and the download speeds were terrible and the connectivity was even worse. They had guys out here every day for like a week. Never again.

I had similar issues a few years back. They sent contractors the first 5 times and they kept saying that it was a problem inside the house. The 6th time, after I blew them up on Twitter, they sent an actual Mediacom employee who went straight to the box in our back yard replaced something and haven't had a problem since.

Until you work from home for 15 months and experience an average of 2-3 outages/day. Not long ones that they can identify and fix, mind you. Outages just long enough to kick everyone off VPN and drop all video calls, then go back to normal. I can't ******* wait for MetroNet.

I had the constant outages with Mediacom and filed a service request online, which was much easier than trying to deal with calling them. They replaced some coax jacks that had some loose parts in them and had to have some other guys fix some things on the main line but it's been much better since.

I had outages constantly with Mediacom for about a year before I could switch to Metronet, they only lasted for a few minutes usually. Zero outages since switching.

Got Metronet last year after being a long time Mediacom subscriber. Have never regretted it once. I think we've had exactly one outage in that time.
Are you located in Iowa? Also, I was looking at some of Metronets packages and I do not see ESPN+ in any of them, or am I missing something?

I am located in Iowa. I get ESPN+ via my Disney Plus package

So did you go with the cheapest package that Metronet had, and then just add on your Disney Plus package?
We went with the gigabit. Disney Plus was separate.

I live in Urbandale and MetroNet is installing new fiber optic lines. I have had Mediacom for about 25 years, but tired of spending so much. Does anyone have any experience with MetroNet?

They've been in Nevada for about a year. They seem disorganized as hell, work in one part of town for a couple of days, then move to another site altogether leaving original work unfinished. They dug a hole in my yard without request or permission and covered it with a plate rather than filling it in. I don't plan on getting their service, so why should they have to have access on my property?

I checked out pricing early on and wasn't really impressed. A coworker says he knows someone that has it and the speed and service aren't consistent at all.

Everyone is getting all excited about the "fiber optics", but a new product or service is only worth as much as the company that is behind it...

They have a right to access any part of your property that's in a Public Utility Easement, just like any other utility. They can also work in the Right-of-Way with permission from the City. If they're leaving things unfinished, contact the City about it, and they should have a process for pressuring MetroNet to backfill and restore those areas.
