Just flipped on a Netflix anime and it superimposed this text "Warning: violence, nudity, gore, smoking" .

Dat smoking thing again.

Tarantino always has tons of smoking in his movies. And loves Red Apple cigarettes.....and, uh, women's feet. The guy has some strange obsessions.

Don't know if any of you are wondering, but the man whose picture I am using for my avatar is Ser Jorah from Game of Thrones. He is played by Iain Glen, who also portrayed Sir Richard Carlyle in Downton Abbey. The vixen and I have always thought his acting skills of the highest order, since he was so odious as Carlyle, and so honorable as Ser Jorah.

I always thought Ser Jorah was kinda creepy following Daenerys around like a love struck puppy even though he had to be at least twice her age and never seemed to have any chance with her.

I do not mean this as any sort of reflection on you though.;)

This wedding we get to go this weekend......turns out the wife’s brother is officiating it. So we are getting drug out to the desert, to have an uncle marry the couple, and then wonder back. Biggest concern I had was it was going to be non stop family time for the whole time out there. Got the schedule but so far wife is still agreeing to go to the Grand Canyon one day. Otherwise it will be sitting around with people I don’t care for and watch them get drunk and brag about stupid crap they did in high school.

I’m not a fan of random people officiating wedding ceremonies. I prefer clergy or judges to actually do it, clergy for the most part.

I don't really get the random person officiating thing but I suppose if you're on marriage number 3+ why not,

Have you even seen the Grand Canyon?

Never been to the Grand Canyon. I know parts are closed, but they can’t tarp over the whole thing. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

This is wedding number one for both. They were wound up about date 4 3 21. That is what drove their decision on marriage. Wife’s niece is 30-31. Unsure of her fiancé but acts about 17 so he fits with the wife’s stuck in HS family.

All I know is things changed because his family was concerned about Covid ( they are from out of state also), so they are getting married in the desert, then having another ceremony a year later (she asked my daughter to be a bridesmaid) so the wife and my daughter get to go out in a year again (hope it doesn’t mess with college classes) and they are having their full blown wedding and reception on their first anniversary so his family can come out.

I think they should do the whole ceremony now and not hang the whole wedding party out to have to show up again since most are from out of state.

Reminded me of the wedding of one of my buddy's daughters some years ago. The pastor (using that word loosely here) had a guitar around his neck and sang. The only wedding I ever attended where the bride, the groom, and the pastor all cried.

In this case why don't they just get married simply at the courthouse to make it legal now and then have the ceremony in a year when they whole family, both sides, can get together. This just seems extremely selfish to have two actual ceremonies.

I realized I'm likely preaching to the choir saying this.

Some of these weddings I’ve been to have gotten more unique. One had combined for a backdrop. One you sat on hay bales for it.

Outside of knowing my destination, I pretty much just wing it when I road trip. I rode up 64 from the interstate and parked near the Grand Canyon village. Then you just follow the trails. The tower view is the circled area on the right. That is probably the grandest view. There are a few roads in between the two that lead to viewing points.
Most of the viewing areas have minimal guard rails. It's easy to understand why people fall as you can get right to the edge.

A buddy of mine, who is a veteran rock climber, climbed the Devil's Tower in Wyoming some years ago. (This is where the final scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind was filmed.) He said that on the top, which is very flat, you can walk right over to the edge. He said he started to feel a compulsion to jump! Had to turn away before it got too powerful. That would be pretty creepy.........

I haven't been there since I was about 8 years old and Lew has never been there, despite the fact that my father lived in Phoenix for about 10-12 years and we visited him a half-dozen times. We were always flying in, with limited vacation time, and never took the two days out of the middle that would have been necessary for a good look.

No. Lew has NOT forgiven me. :D

Just realized I forgot the onions in the batch of vegetable beef soup I made. I was putting it together Saturday night when work called and I was stuck on that for about an hour.
I suppose I could probably cut up the onion and boil it up in some of the broth and then add it now.

We are doing the one day quick trip. May not give us the whole deal (8 hours of driving will limit it also) but at least say I’ve been there and see something outside of Phx.

New neighbors moved in last month a few houses down. They are turning the their garage into a Hawkeye bar and plan to have gamewatch parties every saturday during football season. yuck.

I was in a Harley dealership just outside of Washington D.C. in Jan 2020. I was wearing a Badland's Harley shirt and the woman at the counter commented on it. I said I stopped by there when riding out to Devil's Tower.
She asked me what's Devil's Tower, so I asked her if she ever saw Close Encounters. She said yes so I told her it was the flat topped mountain at the end where the aliens showed up. Her response was "That place is real?"
I pulled out my phone and showed her some pictures I had taken of it.
