RECRUITING: Cyclones land Washington State transfer

His stats are decent but he’s still developing so they could make another jump here. Love that we’re getting a transfer with P5 experience that has a reputation for high end effort. Has there been a team more in need of an infusion of effort than us the last two years? This is exactly what we need. I hope we see more to come.

I've been saying long ago that we should dip more into the international pool. Last one we had was the Greek dude.
Not sure its what you had in mind, but we'll definitely be recruiting Canada with TJs recruiting ties.

As it stands now it’s him or Johnson starting at the 4, with both playing significant minutes. Obviously that can change as we pick up more players.. but that’s where we are now.

I'm just so unimpressed with Johnson... If he stays, I hope he was just not used correctly. If he goes, I would think the 4 spot filled by Hinson (hope he stays) and Jaz would be a nice upgrade

I really like his ability to catch and shoot. But I was impressed by the video of Dubar and Blackwell too. So what the **** do I know?

This team needs players who can play at this level. At the very least we know he can be a contributor and help improve our spacing and shooting. Welcome aboard.

Keep in mind that Jaz has 2 years of eligibility remaining if he chooses! This is a great step in the right direction

So far with kids on campus our starters would have been: (Not counting Hunter, yet. But I hope he stays)

Walker
Bolton
Johnson
Hinson
Foster

Now with Jaz

Walker
Bolton
Hinson
Jaz
Foster

Taking out a 27% 3 point shooter and below average rebounder and high turnover guy.

Replacing him with a 34% shooter who rebounds at a higher level than anyone on the 2020/21 roster. Also, Jaz never turned the ball over more than twice in 2020/21.

Johnson seems to be a case of his mindset not matching his skill set. Like Bolton Johnson seemed to need the ball is his hand. If we are able to hold onto Hunter Johnson will need to adjust his game if he wants to see the floor. TJ has to bring in another forward so Johnson will have a battle just to stay in the rotation.

I remember seeing Javon come in as a 35% 3 point shooter. But I forgot to take into account that was before they moved the 3 point line back in the 2019-2020 season.

Hinson was also a 35% shooter in 18/19. However, he made 32% in 19/20 with a line that was moved back. Plus Hinson has 30 pounds on Javon. That will help a lot.

Bringing guys like Tre Jackson and Javon Johnson off the bench instead of relying on them to start is a HUGE win!

Bringing them off the bench is a huge win ONLY if they accept their roles ('if' that ends up the case). Will be interesting, because regardless of being 2-22, some guys don't handle less minutes very well. We'll find out who the 'all in' players are I guess.
